i>They call him many names, but angelic isn't one of them.

Sebastian Ballister, the notorious Marquess of Dain, is big, bad, and dangerous to know. No respectable woman would have anything to do with the "Bane and Blight of the Ballisters", and he wants nothing to do with respectable women. He's determined to continue doing what he does best - sin and sin again - and all's going swimmingly…until the day a shop door opens and she walks in.

She's too intelligent to fall for the worst man in the world.

Jessica Trent is a determined young woman, and she's going to drag her imbecile brother off the road to ruin, no matter what it takes. If saving him - and with him her family and future - means taking on the devil himself, she won't back down. The trouble is, the devil in question is so shockingly irresistible that the person who needs saving most is Jessica herself.

Unsettling

I purchased this book because Kate Reading is the narrator. Steadfast, eloquent & sophisticated Kate Reading who narrates classics such as the pure Jane Austen novels. And she didn’t disappoint, exactly. She gave a good performance. But it was rather unsettling to listen to KR narrating an explicit sex scene. Not sure I could ever have been prepared for that.

KR’s accent for the lower classes was somewhat lacking, I thought, but otherwise another good rendition.

The story itself was different: for once, it’s the man who has crippling self-loathing and although some misconceptions/miscommunications are inevitable, Jessica is patient enough and understands boys well enough to work through Dane’s issues.

Great Story. Not your typically romance. Loved it

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes. The story just had more to it than your typically romance novels. I loved that you saw into both the different characters heads and knew their thought process. A very interesting and enjoyable listen. Can't wait to try another Loretta Chase book.

What about Kate Reading’s performance did you like?

Just enjoyed her characters's voices overall. Nice delivery and timing.

Any additional comments?

Definitely worth the credit.

God story

Good story. Well told. British english is so much better than american. Sorry, but there you are. American gives me astma. Very unpleasant.

A fine book made better by a talented narrator!

This is a case of a very fine book being raised to 'perfect' by the efforts of a talented narrator. I loved Lord of Scoundrels when I read the book several years ago. It is an excellent example of what a historical romance should be.

The main characters in this story, Jessica and Dain, are multifaceted, intelligent, admirable, and in Dain's case, wounded. Kate Reading brings them to life with her reading of the story. I can't believe how practical and determined Jessica was in the face of Dain's outrageous boorish behaviour. Her insights into his underlying character were key to making their relationship something the reader could see the value in pursuing. A lesser woman would have washed her hands of him but not Jessica. Her unshakeable code of ethics and rather spectacular backbone were the solid foundation on which his redemption was built. If you like a heroine who doesn't whine, retreat into martydom, or run away, you will love Jessica!

I'd recommend this book in print or audio to anyone looking for a good historical romance but I'd say the audiobook version gives an even richer experience of the story. Well done Ms. Reading!

Loved it

If you could sum up Lord of Scoundrels in three words, what would they be?

Scandalous, Funny, and addicting

What did you like best about this story?

I liked that the lead female in the story was not some weak damsel in distress, but a strong woman.

What about Kate Reading’s performance did you like?

I thought the performance was great, I got lost in the story because she made each character their own.

Very Good Narration!!!

Kate Reading did a wonderful job in narrating this book. She could read the PHONE BOOK from cover to cover and I sit there and listen to her. In my book of female narrators, Ms. Reading is right next to Susan Ericksen in the #1 spot.
