Publisher's summary

Darkness is the only thing I see. Ever since the day my life changed. The day that everything and everyone I held close to me ceased to exist. The day I lost it all, and the demons of my past consumed my every waking moment.

I tried to keep others at arm's length. Tried not to let my darkness taint them. Ruin them. Harm them. And whether I want to admit it or not, as much as I wish I could keep them locked out, they refuse to leave. Refuse to let me suffer alone.

If I hadn't been so focused on keeping those demons from flying free, I wouldn't have missed how one perfect angel was able to sneak her way under my skin - refusing to let go. Making me want things I don't deserve. She consumes me. Her beauty knows no end. The love she promises tempts me every time she's near. But that pure heart that makes her my Emmy is the one thing I'm convinced I'll destroy if I ever let her close.

Contains mature themes.

Unimaginative, I've Read This Book before x4

😒Finally, the end of the series. If you read my earlier reviews, you can see that I really enjoyed the 1st installment but they go downhill from there.

I do not like leaving less than stellar reviews, but I would have appreciated another point of view when I was reading through the reviews.

Locke is the 5th and final book in the Corps Security series. By the time I was listening to #4 (Cooper) I noticed a pattern with Harper Sloan's writing. EVERYTHING is the same. For example, each of the male characters had the same dialect, "Don't go anywhere without me. I got you, yeah?" Was repeated in each book, "You're with me, yeah?" And so on, LITERALLY. The intimate scenes were so similar that if you put a book in front of me with the paragraph and left the names out, I would not be able to tell you which book it was from.

These are definitely cookie-cutter books with an ounce or 2 that differs to make them "unique".
1. Damaged guy is going to protect equally damaged girl, whether she wants them to or not
2. Damaged girl is affected by an outside source (Crazy ex-girlfriend, overbearing family member, etc.)
3. Misinformation and/or miscommunication leads to several chapters of sulking/whining
4. Damaged man takes matters into his own hands and fixes everything, sometimes with damaged girls help.

Sprinkle and heavy doses of intimacy and you have the Core Security book.

The characters are pretty much interchangeable, depending on where they fall, in the storyline. My recommendation is to listen to one of the books (they are standalone works, even though they belong to a series) and continue from there, If you like them. I made the mistake of purchasing the whole series at once and listen to them back to back (2 – 5) I listened to and reviewed book number 1 Axel, 2 years before listening to the rest of the series.

These books contain strong language and mature themes meant for 18-year-olds and older.

Fighting Demons

I loved the way the this last book ended madaxe gave himself the opportunity to beat his demons and love. Emi was the great helping beat her demons and never losing hope that Madaxe would come around and there love would conquer all the pain and love would win.

Enjoyed the entire series

I have another favorite author. This review is for the entire series. Loved each character and they stories. All of which touch on family drama of some level. I went ahead and downloaded the next generation of these characters. Loved little Cohen as a 4 year old, can't wait to see how he developed into a young adult.

A perfect ending to this series

This is not the 1st time I've read/listened to this book and every single time it's a tough read emotionally. There are triggers that can make it difficult, but for me it's the cruelty of Locke and Emmy's past. Don't let that keep you from consuming this book though because the ending is PERFECTION!

I enjoyed the series but...

I enjoyed the series but the whiney narration is nerve wrecking. Sean Crisden's female voices were so whiney all I could do was roll my eyes. What female does he know that sounds that awful? Abby Craden's female voices are singing and they are doing itn in a hurry. I don't know. I've listened to these books multiple times and I have the same feeling about them.
I know that reading is a escape but some of the dialog was just eye rolling. Not an awful series. But there are better out there.

Love this group of characters!

I loved this whole series. I listened to the set of 2nd generation stories first. Then I found the this first set! could do with a little less of the language but I laughed and cried through several books. Must read!
