Publisher's summary

In her sensational Breathless Trilogy, number-one New York Times best-selling author Maya Banks tested the boundaries of desire. In her Surrender trilogy, there’s only one thing left to do: cross them. And never have the consequences of erotic exploration been so irresistibly inviting, so shockingly intimate, and so totally unexpected....

Josslyn found perfection once, and she knows she’ll never find it again. Now widowed, she seeks the one thing her beloved husband couldn’t give her: dominance. Lonely, searching for an outlet for her grief and wanting only a brief taste of the perfection she once enjoyed, she seeks what she’s looking for at an exclusive club that caters to people indulging in their most hedonistic fantasies. She never imagined that what she’d find would be the one man who’s long been a source of comfort - and secret longing. Her husband’s best friend.

Dash has lived in an untenable position for years: in love with his best friend’s wife but unwilling to act on that attraction. He’d never betray his best friend. And so he’s waited in the wings, offering Joss unconditional support and comfort as she works past her grief, hoping for the day when he can offer her more.

When he finds her in a club devoted to the darker edges of desire, he’s furious because he thinks she has no idea what she’s getting herself into. Until she explains in detail what it is she wants. What she needs. As realization sets in, he is gripped by fierce, unwavering determination. If she wants dominance, he is the only man who will introduce her to that world. He is the only man who will touch her, cherish her...love her. And the only man she’ll ever submit to.

would have been better with a different narrorator

Would you try another book from Maya Banks and/or Alix Dale?

I would definitely try another book from Maya Banks, however, now I am leary about this narrorator.

What didn’t you like about Alix Dale’s performance?

Her performance came off to me as whiny and Dash's voice was not appealing at all. It took the sexy out of the book.

Do you think Letting Go needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

I this Jos and Dash's story is pretty complete but someone should tell Kylie's story. She needs a happy ending.

Wow!

Where does Letting Go rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Top 3

Have you listened to any of Alix Dale’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Not until this book. I thought did a good job.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Joss and Dash finally got together

Any additional comments?

I love maya Banks and was not disappointed with this story. Cannot wait until I have listened to the whole series.

Wished For a Deeper Plot But, oh the Book is Hot!

Is there anything you would change about this book?

The Breathless trilogy (Rush, Fever, Burn) is my go to listen- especially Fever.

I was expecting something similar in this, Surrender Series. This was the first in the trilogy and I was a bit disappointed, only a little bit. One bonus that IS intriguing-we hear about The House and a few of the main characters from Maya Banks' Sweet Collection.

My main grievance is that it is lacking a deeper plot. This one was good but not great.

The grieving widow decides after three years that it is time to let go and start the life that she wants. Her husband's best friend happens to be exactly what she wants or needs. It is predictable from there.

The narration was good and smooth.

Notes: mature themes, strong language

Credit worthy/$: I usually buy Maya Banks books outright because they cost less then a credit. I am not one for cliffhangers so I promised myself not to purchase this book until the entire trilogy was available. Fortunately, all three were available and Audible had a 50% off sale, so I got a steal! Thanks for the sound advice DMT, sometimes patience DOES pays off.

Narrator a bit much...

Pretty good story. Some of the dialogue was a bit cheesy and unnecessary. Narrator was way too breathy and odd sounding. It was hard for me to get past and focus on the story.

"Letting Go" is correct.

I generally enjoy Ms. Banks' writing, especially her "Colter's Legacy" series. I'm disappointed in in this effort. The characters natter on and on about their angst over the death of the husband. That's really boring. The narrator doesn't help. She has a very nasally voice and when a word ends in the letter P, it ends up having an F sound added in. This book just doesn't live up to her outstanding reputation.

wanted it to be better than what is was...

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would add more depth to the story. The book just consisted of sex and not much of anything else.

What could Maya Banks have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

The book was about a woman losing her husband and trying to learn how to love and trust another man... but the way the book was written I could not get into the emotional journey. It just had me tuning out and couldn't get into the story.

How could the performance have been better?

I don't think the narrator expressed the emotion accurately. In some of the scenes I think it was over the top.

Any additional comments?

A plus about the book, the sex scenes were VERY hot. Made up for the other lacking areas.

Preformance over dramatic and the male voice AHHHH

The male voice sounded like she was forcing it through, not a pleasant listen. She made the two main characters sound like winey children. Very hard to listen through the story.

annoying narrator

the heavy lusty narrator mixed with what sounds like grogginess is annoying. I didn't get through the whole book because it was such a distraction.

The writing feels too dramatic for reality.

The storyline could have been great, but the writing was overally dramatic and unrealistic. I'm cringing just thinking of everytime I heard the word hunny.
