Publisher's summary

Laura Kinsale's best romantic comedy, narrated in Nick Boulton's sexy, wicked voice....

Trevelyan d'Augustin and Lady Callista Talliafaire were secret sweethearts, until the day her father dismissed him with a whip across the face. Ten years and three jiltings later, shy Callie is resigned to a quiet village life as the late earl's spinster daughter. But now Trev has returned from his estates in France, upending everything, dragging her into adventures, stealing Hubert the prize-winning bull, and flinging Callie's heart into mayhem again.

Laura and Nick fans who enjoy a practical, witty heroine will love shy Lady Callista with her cattle and daydreams, and believe dashing Trev will be a lucky man if he can win her back...or perhaps just kidnap her instead!

Regency fun

This was such a fun, light caper in Regency setting complete with a rakish French duke and a prise bull on the loose. The narrator was pitch perfect for this book.

Favorite Kinsale Book yet

What did you love best about Lessons in French?

I enjoyed both the story and the characters. Read like a my favorite books from Georgette Heyer. Less suspenseful than some of the other Kinsale books which I prefer when I wish to relax.

Any additional comments?

Hope there are more of this type still to come from Laura Kinsale.

A more fluffy Kinsale story

I feel like I always want to give Laura Kinsale's books a try because Nicholas Boulton's narration is top notch. She is a great writer and I always end up getting invested from the start..however towards the middle It feels like a lot of unnecessary angst sometimes or the angst is just too prolonged so that by the end I'm frazzled. I'm happy to say that Lessons in French doesn't have as much angst as her other novels. It's more lighthearted and probably one of my favorites from her. Give it a try if you need a break from some of her other more tension filled novels.

Amazing narrator. Wonderful love story.

Another winner by Kinsale.
Love story about a rogue and a lady, lengthy yet I loved every bit of it.
No one on the planet could have narrated it better than Nicholas Boulton.

A Delightful, Amusing, Complicated Romance

I enjoyed this novel a great deal. Callie and Trev are smart, witty, gentle, down-to-Earth characters who manage to muddle through some very interesting and complicated situations until the plot reaches HEA and you too will sigh with pleased resignation. Along the way you'll get to laugh, feel some fear, gasp with apprehension, smile with romantic pleasure and... laugh.

You may also fall in love with Hubert, the bull, as well as Trev's charming, conniving mother.

Laura Kinsale is a clever writer and Mr. Boulton does a perfect job narrating her work.

Highly recommend.

So much fun!

Oh my, this book is so cute! I love Callie's daydreaming reveries -- hysterical. It is so sweet how well Trev understands her, her dry wit, her fantasies about pirates, etc. And priceless how he makes them come true for her. This book is so well-written and funny. I've read reviews that say the stealing of the bull makes the book too silly, but the whole story is slightly off-kilter so why not a stolen bull? And the narrator -- my goodness! His French accent is amazing -- in fact, every kind of accent he does is perfect. He does male and female characters equally well. Get this one -- it's so much fun!

The storyline was slow to start but soon became a good read. I often laughed

Kinsale is my favourite historical romance writer

I have enjoyed all of Kinsale's books that I have listened to so far, and this tale was no exception. I enjoy the quirky additions to her storylines, and the cattle in this book were, for me, the stars of the show. I'm a hobby 'farmer' with goats, sheep and chickens, so anything to do with farm animals puts a smile on my face. I think the reason I enjoy Kinsale's stories so much is because they aren't just gushy, bodice-ripping formulaic romances - they really focus on the historical times, the characters, the details of their lives, and the other storylines throughout each book. Sometimes I skip through the mushy bits, but I always love the stories!
