Publisher's summary

Scotland, 1344.

She believes men are not honorable nor are they kind-until she meets one that changes her heart forever.

Betrayed by lies told before her birth, Aishlinn is raised by a harsh and cruel stepfather. Her life is forever changed one horrifying night when she is forced to flee England for the safety of the Scottish Highlands. Rescued by a fierce band of highland warriors, Aishlinn soon learns that honorable men do exist. She finds a strength she never knew she possessed and it will be tested to the limits when she is forced to make a heart-wrenching decision…allow the English to kill those she loves, or surrender for the crime she committed.

She is everything he never knew he wanted in a woman…

As a fierce highland warrior, Duncan McEwan has survived numerous battles, bed countless women, and survived a horrific storm at sea. He has scaled mountains and even survived hand-to-claw battle with a cat-o'mountain. But none of that could have prepared him for how his life forever changed one fateful spring day when he rescued a lass from a freezing stream. He will do anything to keep her as his own and will risk everything to keep her out of the hands of the English.

A Great Start for Suzan Tisdale's Series

What's not to love about a Scottish brogue and about a hero who devotes all his passions to loving just one beautiful heroine that believes she is unlovable.
Definitely worth listening to for the love story of Aishlinn and Duncan, the surprises and heartaches.
I definitely recommend Laiden' s Daughter as a great beginning to Suzan Tisdale's books, a great 5 star story!

Naive, hard-to-like main character

This book was extremely frustrating. Aishlinn was 19 years old, but mentally seemed to be about 12. She is so naive and clueless about everything. Her internal dialogue is so ridiculous and cringey. The narrator’s accent seems fake, and her imitations of male voices always sound like she’s making them angry or shouting. Overall I found the book to be very cringey and frustrating.

Just ok

This book is predictable. Also annoying at times. Especially the way women are treated. Overall it took me days to get through because I couldn't stand to listen for long.

Good story, Good narration but..

Towards the end of the story, Aishlin Became a bit annoying. Also, I read Caelen and Fiona's story first and the author used the same "I'm ugly" trope for both which felt a little tired

.Highland Self Discovery

This highland adventure is set in 1329 Scotland. This is not a Historically detailed story but rather a light romance with some Historical elements.

This is the story of Aishlinn, who was treated cruelly (emotionally & physically) by her step-father, brothers, and an Earl. This story really focuses on Aishlinn’s self-esteem issues and shows her journey of self discovery filled with adventure and romance. The “hero” (Duncan) originally finds Aishlinn to be a frightened and abused young woman. He helps her to overcome her insecurities and demonstrates how patience, tenderness, and love can transcend abuse.

My only negative about this story is that by the end of the book there are still a few unanswered questions. Primarily details about some people and events in her past. Maybe they will be answered in the other books in the series? Hope so.

This is definitely a Cinderella style romance. This is a love story that is more romantic than sexual and, of course, they lived happily ever after!

Narrator's Accents ALL over the place

I'm about halfway through this so far and I'm struggling to finish it. It seems like a good story so far, and that's the only thing keeping me going. The narrator can't do a Scottish accent to save her life and needs to stop trying. ALL of the characters she has tried to do a Scottish accent for, end up sounding Irish. There's a HUGE difference between an Irish accent and a Scottish one. (I would know the difference, as I married a Scot directly from the Highlands.) I think if she stopped trying to do the Scottish accent, her narration would be better. I will update this if or when I finish the book.
