Publisher's summary

Since time began, there have been Nightwalkers - the races of the night who live in the shadows of the moonlight. Love with humans is absolutely forbidden, and one man makes certain to uphold this ancient law: Jacob, the Enforcer.

For 700 years, he has resisted temptation. But not tonight... Jacob knows the excuses his people give when the madness overtakes them and they fall prey to their lust for humans. He's heard every one and still brought the trespassers to justice. Immune to forbidden desires, uncontrollable hungers, or the curse of the moon, his control is total... until the moment he sees Isabella on a shadowy New York City street. Saving her life wasn't in his plans. Nor were the overwhelming feelings she arouses in him. But the moment he holds her in his arms and feels the soft explosion of her body against his, everything changes. Their attraction is undeniable, volatile, and completely against the law. Suddenly everything Jacob has ever believed is inflamed by the heat of desire. Bring on the night.

Not what I expected...

There are multiple types of Nightwalkers, Jacob is the enforcer of the Demon's, it is his job to protect human kind from his kind...twice a year the moon makes them insane with lust, a lust if left unchecked could destroy a human...so he watches, and he protects, and he gives out the punishments. In over 600 years he has never been tempted by a human...until this little human falls out of her window and ignites something in him, and her as well. Is it forbidden or is it fate?

Nice world, I already downloaded book 2. It's not up there with BDB or Guild Hunter series but it's pretty good. I would liken it to the midnight breed series, but I think I was poisoned by hearing such wonderful things about the series.

Enjoyed it, very much

This was a good listen. The narrator did an excellent job with the voices. Is the basic paranormal romance, that gets your mind off everyday life. This book created the human-demon world, that will be the basis of the sequels, so did quite a bit of explaining, but that's OK. Makes going to the next one easy. Has other interesting characters, that will be nice to hear their stories, along with building on the original storyline.

Good story, terrible narrator

Liked the book for the most part. The character names really needed not to be Twilight knock offs but whatever, I overlooked that. Loved the tension between Isabella and Jacob. The narrator was horrible. Jacob is described as an ancient English Demon, and she made him sound like a corny Dracula. And she drags her voice on EVERY solitary word! Ugh! I feel like the narrator hurt this book. If the story wasn’t so good, I would have quit in he first chapter.

JACOB can enforce me ANY time!!

It's hard to write a review without giving away THE moments! The moments when you know the book had you sinking lower in its quicksand with no escape at the end but to grasp for the next book!

I had this title in my wishlist for weeks... being sort-of new to the paranormal series... I was heavy into wolves... Then the 3rd book in the Alpha and Omega was so blah.. I figure is was time to go back to my usual books. After reading 2 different series with cliffhangers and months to wait to get my answers I decided to troll audible for an entire series! I wanted a series that starts and book after book, little by little I would get wrapped in a good listen that would take my mind off everything else for a few hours a day and has a darn ending!!. So I picked this Night-walkers series, crossed my fingers Franks was good and Sands was a better narrator....

P.s. Frank is FANTASTIC and Sands was INCREDIBLE!!!

The first few chapters require some patience...It is after all the beginning.... Oh boy, when Jacob caught Bella I knew I was done for! At first i was thinking, hmmm "demon + human, how on earth am I going to connect with this" Let me say, whatever you think...throw it out the window!!!! In my opinion there is no boring part anywhere in this book...

Jacob 'the enforcer' is well an old supernatural. His powers ranking 2nd in his race. He has led a secluded life since he is the most feared and hated demon of his race. His job is simple keep all demons in line in order to keep the human race safe. His race is civilized and old but they have one weakness...the beast within them. For the most part each demon is in control, except twice a year when many struggle and even fall back to their savage natures. Jacob's job is to make sure each demon keeps control..and for those caught...he has to issue punishment and hence why he is who he is.

Bella is a librarian, living a quite life and craving for something...One night, as she has done many times before, she was looking to the moon when this beautiful, well dressed man walks down her road. She doesn't live in the best part of town and tries to warn him away. For some reason she is drawn to him but can't figure it out.

When Bella slips and Jacob acts to save her...Yikes!....from that touch and every step or words exchanges after that take everything they both know and tosses it upside down. Franks takes us through the introduction, the danger, the futile fight Bella and Jacob try to keep away from each other, the unfolding of the past, the prediction of the future, more danger, more danger, additional lovable characters, the vile race that is unfortunately part of it all.... AND AT THE END.....Well, lets just say my advice is simple.....just download the entire series now.... You will not want to read any other book until you get to the end of this series!

Goood story EXCELLENT Narrator

The story is good, with witty dialogue and some action. Like others have said, it contains a bit too much romance for this genre, but still a good read. What makes the story GREAT is the narrator. Xe Sands is amazing! She created an entire production crew out of her own voice. She literally brings the story to life. I have to highly recommend this book because no one should miss ANY of Xe Sands' narrations. What a talent!

All from falling out of a window...

Another new author, and another crossed off my Want To Read list. I am really getting my monies worth with the Romance Package.

I really enjoyed this paranormal romance and I will definitely go on in the series. The narrator does a great job, especially considering she has to use an accent for most of the characters. She does a great male voice too. It was easy to tell when the characters changed. One little niggle was that she made Bella sound a little whiney at times.

Hmmmm...what's up next?

I love this book!

Would you listen to Jacob again? Why?

Yes, and I have 3 times.

What other book might you compare Jacob to and why?

Avengers Angel, Messengers Angel and Death Angel by Heather Killough-Walden. I love these books and I find Jacob along the same lines of interesting, fun and a very good read.

Which character – as performed by Xe Sands – was your favorite?

I love Bella and Jacob. Her voice was great and she does a great job sounding different with each of them. Your the Best.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Both! She has a great way of writing that made me really get into the book and forget myself. I could really see where her character was going and sometimes just get taken by suprise.

Any additional comments?

I can't wait to read the other Books by her.

Great book, mostly good narrator

Love this book. Overall good narration as she's got a great voice. My only critique would be that I think the narrator could do much better on the voices. She doesn't portray emotions such as excitement or frustration very well as she uses little to no modulation, especially when doing the men's voices.
