Publisher's summary

Since time began, there have been Nightwalkers - the races of the night who live in the shadows of the moonlight. Love with humans is absolutely forbidden, and one man makes certain to uphold this ancient law: Jacob, the Enforcer.

For 700 years, he has resisted temptation. But not tonight... Jacob knows the excuses his people give when the madness overtakes them and they fall prey to their lust for humans. He's heard every one and still brought the trespassers to justice. Immune to forbidden desires, uncontrollable hungers, or the curse of the moon, his control is total... until the moment he sees Isabella on a shadowy New York City street. Saving her life wasn't in his plans. Nor were the overwhelming feelings she arouses in him. But the moment he holds her in his arms and feels the soft explosion of her body against his, everything changes. Their attraction is undeniable, volatile, and completely against the law. Suddenly everything Jacob has ever believed is inflamed by the heat of desire. Bring on the night.

Loved it!

What made the experience of listening to Jacob the most enjoyable?

The story was great! Jacquelyn Franks is an excellent writer. This was the first book by her that I had ever read/listened to. It really draws you in, and you quickly begin to love the characters.

What about Xe Sands’s performance did you like?

She does a great job with the accents and the different characters voices. She is one of the best narrators I have ever had the pleasure of hearing!

400 year old demon seeking ......

Love the fact the women in this book are not all weak and don't cry when their lives are turned upside down by finding out that things really do go bump in the night and what is deemed evil is not always what it seems! Refreshing new take on the world of Demond's and Druids!

Good for its category

This was an interesting concept and I enjoyed the book for the most part. At the risk of negative reactions by fans of the author I just can't ignore some of the things that bothered me while listening to the series. One, first and foremost, Bella and Jacob? Really? If this had been written before Twilight I may have been more forgiving but I'm taking one star just for the use of those names. I bout choked on my drink when I heard "imprinting" and yanked another star. It disappointed me that a world builder couldn't steer clear of those three things by simply giving new names.

My other issue was the narration. It wasn't horrible by any means but all the male voices either came out like Count Dracula or surfer dudes. Bella, for all her occasional quirky fist-to-hip spunk was usually voiced with a meek whisper that came off part sex kitten, part braindead. And yet I see people love the narration so maybe I missed something.

All these things aside I was curious enough to try the second book and cheated by looking ahead at the other book summaries- I was disappointed to see the author stray from the path of her main characters to encompass as many supernatural couplings as possible; why? When you have a perfectly good species and plenty of singles would you try to push the crossbreeding storyline to its limits? The hunt for potential mates within this new knowledge has plenty of room for a series. It makes me sad to know an author I could potentially like has sold out her universe to encompass all fandoms in hopes of growing a quick following. Sigh.

Still, I enjoyed the ride even with the above-mentioned cringes and felt it worth the credit for paranormal romance enthusiasts.

Officially a Frank Fan!

This book begins the Night Walker series. The action is fast, the romance tingly and the characters endearing. I'll be listening to the complete series.

I want one!

After listening to this book it made me want a demon of my own. The sexy voice the narrator gave touched me like Jacob was talking directly to me.
