Wonderful Victorian Romance Series

This is the first in the series all of which are narrated by Susan Ericksen. While you can read them out of order I recommend going in order as the some of the same group of characters are throughout all the books. This is definately a credit worthy series. The author created a rich group of characters, made up of orphaned children now all grown up and living in some way or another with or alongside the Ton.

I really liked the story

The story kept my interest throughout. The narrator was good, but should have had a man to narrate the main character. Especially during the tender moments between Clayburn & Katherine.

You'll Enjoy This One!

I enjoyed this audiobook from beginning to end! There's plenty of excitement throughout the book to get and keep your interest. I especially enjoyed the journal entries. They were read by the male narrator and added something extra to the book. This story was well-written. The characters are interesting and multi-dimentional.

My only critique would be a minor criticism of the narrating. Overall I thought Susan Ericksen did a wonderful job. But there were a few times, when narrating a conversation, that it was difficult to decipher between the different voices of the characters.

Other than that, I have no complaints. I greatly enjoyed this book and look forward to listening to the next book in the series.

excellent first audio book

Where does In Bed with the Devil rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

I've only listened to a few audiobooks, most of which were from the same author. They are all equally good. The performance of Susan Ericksen was beautiful.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Catherine - the way she slowly changes her opinion about Lucien and realizes his true character and actions.

What about Susan Ericksen and Antony Ferguson ’s performance did you like?

Tempo of reading, diction, the clarity of pronouncement, everything I imagine. I am still a little amazed how the reader slightly changes his/her voice when speaking through different characters. I really enjoyed the performance as much as the book. English is not my native language but I had no trouble understanding the story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

No, I did not cry (there isn't much to laugh about in the book), but nevertheless there were moments when the story touched me, since the story was quite emotional. The author is very skilled, understanding of human nature and, though being a romance novel, the book was by no means shallow, or superfitial. The plot was well thought through, the actions of the characters logical and elaborated by their inner thoughts.

Any additional comments?

I highly recomend both the story and the performance. All the books in the series are as good, my favorite being Just Wicked enough.

The narration by Susan Ericksen and Antony Ferguson helped move the story along without distraction - a key component to enjoyment of audiobooks.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lady Catherine - her willful nature and willingness to experience a world she is not entirely used to.

Which character – as performed by Susan Ericksen and Antony Ferguson – was your favorite?

I enjoyed the journal entries read by Antony Ferguson - it offered a nice change from the rhythm of Susn Ericksen's voice.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes - I was glad I started listening at the beginning of a weekend.

Any additional comments?

A wonderful story, though the cover may put a few people off. Give it a chance!

An unremarkable book

Would you try another book from Lorraine Heath and/or Susan Ericksen and Antony Ferguson ?

No, well, maybe, if it was on sale...

Would you recommend In Bed with the Devil to your friends? Why or why not?

No. I don't have any friends that like this kind of story.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

The narrator had a good voice, but I didn't like the story overall...so that detracted from my rating. It's just not my genre...was trying out something new, and I am sure that if you like this genre you will love the book.

Could you see In Bed with the Devil being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

Yes, perhaps it could be a historical reality show with really, really stupid or vapid ex stars. I hesitate to mention who they should be, but the initials LL come to mind. Also Danny B.

An interesting twist on Oliver Twist

Any additional comments?

Imagine Feagan's tribe from Oliver Twist growing up and becoming respectable adults. This is Lorraine Heath's clever premise, and it works quite well in this book, featuring "Oliver" (here known as Lucien Langdon, the Earl of Claybourne). He's an anguished hero who falls in love with a most proper daughter of a duke. There's love, sex, a little adventure, and a bit of a mystery.

The narration of the audiobook by Susan Ericksen was very good. She handled all of the characters quite well. Antony Ferguson read several entries from the earl's journal, and I would love to hear him do an entire book.

my kind of Romance

loved it. Catherine is a strong heroine not afraid to sacrifice for her love. the devil is a tortured individual racked with guilt. He He loves himself to be an imposter and wishes to live a simple life with his friends. Catherine is the catalyst that allows him to discover his true self. the story and plot are well crafted the characters and their actions believable. Susan Erickson does an awesome job narrating with just the right amount of emotion and amazing voice changed depending on the character she voices. Antony Ferguson reading Luke's dairy add a nice touch. overall very enjoyable will look for more titles by this author.
