Publisher's summary

They call him the Devil Earl - a scoundrel and accused murderer who grew up on the violent London streets. A proper young lady risks more than her reputation when consorting with the roguishly handsome Lucian Langdon, but Lady Catherine Mabry believes she has no choice. To protect those she loves, she would do anything - even strike a bargain with the devil himself.

Lucian desires respectability and a wife above all else, but the woman of his choosing lacks the social graces to be accepted by the aristocracy. Catherine can help Lucian gain everything he wants. But what she asks for in exchange will put their very lives in jeopardy. When danger closes in, Catherine discovers a man of immense passion and he discovers a woman of immeasurable courage. As secrets from his dark past are revealed, Lucian begins to question everything he knows to be true, including the yearnings of his own heart.

Play the Hand You're Dealt

If you could sum up In Bed with the Devil in three words, what would they be?

Surprisingly exceptional listen.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Catherine - a heroine of courage and bravery in a time when women had little power. She followed her heart without hurting anyone in the process.

Which scene was your favorite?

The scene where Catherine left the safety of the carriage to help ward off Lucien's attackers.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

When Lucien forgave Jack for having any part in the death of his parents and asked him to stand with him at his wedding.

Any additional comments?

This story really surprised me because of the unexpected core that made up the characters. It's more than a "good romance" - it's a story that highlights the best of those who are forced to live in difficult times no matter what their station in life represents. It offers a "I Believe I Can Fly" basis of strength and underscores that wealth cannot buy happiness;happiness comes from within.

Awesome

I agree with the review one of the best. Their witty conversations and their titles the lords and duchess I didn't start with book one so I listen to them backward but they are still a great listen Susan wants again knocks it out of the park she is still my favorite.

💜 Great story and SE is fab-u-lous!

Man, Susan Erickson could read the ingredients on a box of cereal and make it interesting. Really, she is so absolutely incredibly talented. (If you’re a fan of hers, read the House of Rohan series by Anne Stuart. Fabulous series.)

And then to get a good book on top of it is just absolutely a treat. This book maybe started off a little slow for me but it picked right up. The characters, their stories and their evolution is engaging and well written. The plot has much going on, but not too much, and keeps our interest piqued all the way to the end, and in fact had me yearning for the next in the series. I love when that happens because series are so fun, getting to “know” the characters and move along with them.

I got this in a 2 for 1 sale and it was well worth it. In fact, I very rarely say this but I would have even felt this to be worth a whole credit.

Now the pressure is on for the next one! Haha

Very Enjoyable

This is the firs book by Lorraine Heath I have purchased. I don't know why I had not her of her before, but I will be buying more of her books. This was a really good story with great characters.

Loved this book, especially the ending

I loved how the main characters fell in love. There's action, a little bit of mystery, and a lot of romance, plus a strong female lead paired with a brooding male with a dark past. It's everything I love about romances.

Excellent, Worth the Credit!

This novel is well-rounded. Good writing, good narration! Characters are developed perfectly. The story of Luke and Catherine is wisely written.

Good story, Questionable Narrating

The plot itself was good, I wish Luke didn’t focus so much on Frannie though. The female narrator took some getting used to, not a very natural cadence. The male narrator was horrible, it was a good thing he was only in it for 5 minutes collectively. I’ll probably buy the second in this series because of the writing. I would listen to it again in the future!

Stick with it -- it is worth it!

This is the story of the "Devil Earl" Lucien Langdon, Lord Claybourne, and Lady Catherine Maybry. With much borrowed from Dickens' Oliver Twist, Lucien (or Luke) was plucked from the streets by a man claiming to be his grandfather, saving him from a life of crime and poverty. His origins, however, are not so clear. Is he the Old Gent's grandson, the rightful heir? Is he a scoundrel and a murderer just posing as aristocracy? Can he help Lady Catherine with her plan to murder her best friend's abusive husband? Should he?
I will confess that I almost quit this story a few times, but I am so glad that I didn't! It takes a while to warm up, but once it does, it is so worth it! The relationship between Luke and Lady Catherine is so touching and the story really drew me in. I love that this is the first of four in a series. I will listen to them all!

Good story, enjoyable read!

I enjoyed this story. The characters were likable and came to life thanks to the narrators. Excellent performance!
