Publisher's summary

He saved Peyton Lockhart’s life when they were kids - but now she’s all grown up and he’s a seasoned FBI agent who comes to her rescue again in the new contemporary romance from number-one New York Times best-selling author Julie Garwood.

Peyton and her sisters have inherited Bishop’s Cove, a small, luxurious oceanfront resort, but it comes with conditions: The girls must run the resort for one year and show a profit - only then will they own it.

A graduate of a prestigious French culinary school, Peyton has just lost her job as a food critic after rightfully accusing her boss of sexual harassment. Out of work and in a bad place personally, to Peyton a year doing something completely different sounds wonderful. Peyton dives into learning the resort business but is quickly derailed by an escalating chain of events that puts her life in danger. She refuses to be intimidated - until she’s nearly killed. Then she calls on her childhood friend and protector, Finn MacBain, now with the FBI, and asks for his help. Finn is more than happy to do a favor for Peyton, but he doesn’t plan on dealing with the beautiful, passionate woman she has become.

There are countless challenges and too many people who want to stop Peyton and her sisters from succeeding. Among them are their contentious cousins and a powerful group of land developers who have been eyeing the coveted beachfront property. And it also becomes apparent that her old boss holds a serious grudge and believes in payback.

While the attraction between Peyton and Finn flames bright enough to distract them both from their dangerous situation, a happily ever after ending seems all but impossible. But the well-trained lawman never loses focus: He saved her life once; now he must do it again.

Another Great Book

…. And unbelievably without a Buchanan in it… say it not so. Finn and Peyton were absolutely a perfect match with a great history and are very believable characters. The narrator was very good. Again, Julie Garwood gives you the descriptions of when where and why with well developed characters leaving you with a wide range of emotions.

Pick Another Garwood, Like Sizzle

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

I was going to stop after 2 hrs, but kept going as some of the readers do get better as the story rolls out.I did finish, but would probably not re listen. The reader just could not get the job done for a re listen. Not sure where Ms Garwood was going with this one, harassment or a mystery or family trials. Frankly the family issues were very boring for me. Ms Garwood should have developed Finn's brothers as they had more charisma and the Navy Seals had more to offer. Not the best editing Ms Garwood has had.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Hotshot?

when Finn meets Payton at the wedding. the swim contest.

Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Amy McFadden?

Karen White could have made the most of the humor in this story. What a waste of good dialogue and humor. The cadence was off, and the last 2 hrs had the best voice changes, but I really had to stick it out in the first half of the book. Like some of the other Garwood modern stories, the first establishing chapters are not that great, but they get better as the story develops.

Any additional comments?

I did not give Sizzle a chance in audio, but the book read well, so give that one a look.
Susan Deneker does Judith McNaughts "Every Breath you Take" and reads Sizzle from Garwood. Deneker aka Madison Cole is not to be missed when she does an Irish voice.

Thoroughly Enjoyable

I enjoyed this book. The comeuppance for the bad guys was enjoyable. However, the ending was even better. The characters were well developed and likeable, even Debbie. An easy read, some action, some romance, minor sex scenes everything to keep you interested.

Narrator was pretty good.

No One Does It Better

Julie Garwood is always a hit with me. I love how clever Peyton was with her slimy boss. And was on the edge of my seat when she was driving through the snow storm. Finn is a hero, even as a teenager. As always with it being an FBI thriller. This book has suspense, drama, & humor. So has it all as far as I am concerned.

Another winner for Julie Garwood

This book captured me from the first pages all the way to the end. It's the story of Finn McBain, FBI agent, and the little girl next door whose life he saved when he was 14 and she was 6. All grown up, they meet again at his brother's wedding just after she narrowly escaped bodily harm from her sexual predator boss. The main story, the side story of her sister and the resort manager, and the backstory of Debbie, the malicious cousin, were enjoyable throughout the book. You will love it too!

Evidently 'optional' has another meaning that I wasn't aware of.......

I love feel good thrillers! So tired of strange sounding narrations. This was a welcome 5-5-5 across the board.

Another Garwood winner

Garwood has done it again. I enjoyed the characters and the story with just enough steamy scenes, romance and humor.
But the narrator's voice was annoying. Her accent ( was it supposed to be Sweedish) came and went at the strangest times. And it was borderline screeching at times. If Garwood wasn't so good I would have given up after the first chapter.

One of Garwood’s best.

I’ve read many of Julie Garwood’s novels, and this one is probably a top favorite. She grabbed my attention immediately and had me arguing on behalf of the characters for their injustices brought on by the other characters and the plot. I had to remind myself several times that this is just a story. Lol. Very entertaining and will probably listen to it again in the near future. Thank you for the story!
