Separated from her son and forced to create a neural implant that will mean the effective enslavement of her psychically gifted race, Ashaya Aleine is the perfect Psy: cool, calm, emotionless... at least on the surface. Inside, she’s fighting a desperate battle to save her son and escape the vicious cold of the PsyNet. Yet when escape comes, it leads not to safety but to the lethal danger of a sniper’s embrace.
DarkRiver sniper Dorian Christensen lost his sister to a Psy killer. Though he lacks the changeling ability to shift into animal form, his leopard lives within. And that leopard’s rage at the brutal loss is a clawing darkness that hungers for vengeance. Falling for a Psy has never been on Dorian’s agenda. But charged with protecting Ashaya and her son, he discovers that passion has a way of changing the rules.
Mind over matter: listen to more in the Psy-Changeling series.

"One of the greatest pleasures of these books is their ability to deliver both an intensely personal love story as well as a riveting societal drama. Singh is on the fast track to becoming a genre giant!" (Romantic Times)

Still loving this world...this was Dorian's story. Dorian was damaged when his sister was kidnapped in book 1 and killed by the psychopathic council member Enrique, and he has never recovered. He has tried to put on a brave face but his soul is hurt, he hates the Psy and all the represent, if it weren't for them covering up a serial killer within their midst his sister might still be alive.
The first time she saw the dangerous sniper Dr. Ashaya Aleine knew he almost pulled the trigger, so why hasn't she been able to stop thinking of that man..cat...being. She is one of the most important M-Psy known to the Psy race and has pretended to embrace silence for years...and yet this man might have the ability to undo it all.
Overall it was still nice being in this world, however, after being in this world for a while I find it a bit implausible that Ashaya could have hidden her flaws for all these years, even with the net mind. So, while it was nice to read, I found it to be inconsistent with previous plots.

I can't get enough of this series... I am so glad that the books are already written so I don't have to wait for the next book. Nalina Singh has a great imagination... I often wonder how writers can have such a fantastic imagination. I also need to give a lot of credit to Angela Dawe heard amazing way to bring the characters to life. She definitely gives the positive twist to the stories!
Reviewing Romance & Urban Fantasy
I’ve been waiting for Dorian’s story but I have to say that Hostage to Pleasure was a little disappointing. Sure it has a hot alpha and a head strong heroine. But really this series as very predictable formula like so many PNR books do.
I’m just not feeling this series at the moment. It’s not the writing I just this it’s my mood. I think I just need to take a break from it. And come back to see if it can get my attention again when my reading mood has changed.
But in any case Dorian was hot and his Psy woman was like the others, cold until he melted her panties. Meh. I don’t have anything else to say about the book. But I think I enjoy the wolves in this series more than the cats.
NUMBER OF HEARTS: 4 1/2
Dorian has been through so much in his life that he is teetering on the edge of a very dangerous cliff. One wrong move or one wrong emotion could send him over. The last thing that Dorian needs it to get tangled up with a Psy. Or that might be the very thing he does need.
Ashaya has been hiding secrets for years. But now that she has defected all her secrets are starting to come out. The only question is who can she trust with them?
Seriously Nalini must be a writing god. I love everything about this series and these books. And this book made me cry! So loved reading Dorian and Ashaya’s story. But I do have a few questions that I hope will get answered in future books.
Angela does an amazing job again in narrating this book. I love that you know each character’s voice no matter which book you are listening too.
If you have not started this series yet you really really need to. But you have to start with book 1.
I purchased the book from Audible.com and this review is my own opinion and not a paid review.
Nalini Singh is one of my favorite authors and her Psy-Changling series is one of the best. I have listened to this book several times and will likely listen several more :)
Any of her other books, Feral Sins is similar also
Too many to list! I loved the whole book
It made me laugh, cry and feel happy. I ran through all the emotions!
One thing I have to say about this series that sets it apart from others of the Paranormal Romance genre is that the bigger events happening in this world are actually important and play a big part in the stories. Ms. Singh also introduces delicate situations and moral quandries that are great food for thought. (It's not every day you read a standard issue romance that deals with the complexities of caring about a sociopath. I'm just saying.) In that sense, this book is a great natural progression of thoughtful issues that are brought up in this series. I found myself questioning what I would do in the same situation, and that kind of reflection is always a good thing in a book, even if it makes me uncomfortable or if I don't agree with the thoughts or actions of the characters. As such, it made it very compelling reading, especially adding in the romance between Dorian and Ashaya, which was totally believable and hot. So yeah, continued awesomeness. Worth the money and the listening time, no doubt!
These books have an overarching storyline that is getting more complicated. At first they were books about the Changelings vs. the Psy and now they've added the humans. I really enjoy knowing that even though the main storyline between Dorian and Ashaya is done, we'll be seeing them in future books. These are books I will definately revisit in the future. I especially liked the interactions between Dorian and Ashaya's son. The narrator did a fine job as always.
yes, the story comes to life as the reader tells it
Dorian, I could picture this tall, great-looking man batteling his fears and hurting from his limitations
I am obsessed with these book, it was by far the better. Having a child introduced in the book made it even better..it was about love, devotion and family
While "Slave to Sensation" will always be my favorite, this one come in a close second and probably the best in Psy-Changeling relations. Ashaya was the first one who seemed strong enough and ready for what was happening with Dorian.
I am totally loving how each new character is weaved into the lives and drama of DarkRiver and SnowDancer packs.
