Crash has never let the circumstances of his birth, or his lack of a last name, bother him. His associations may be unsavory, but money, friends, and infamy open far more interesting doors than respect ever could. His sole regret? Once lovely, sweet Daisy Whitlaw learned the truth about how he made his fortune, she cut him off.

Daisy's father is dead, her mother is in ill health, and her available funds have dwindled to a memory. When the local parish announces a charity bequest to help young people start a trade, it's her last chance. So what if the grants are intended for men? If she's good enough, she might bluff her way into a future.

When Crash offers to show her how to swagger with confidence, she knows he is up to no good. But with her life in the balance, she's desperate enough to risk the one thing she hasn't yet lost: her heart.

Crash and Daisy have a sweet, playful love story that's sure to give you all the feels. Rosalyn Landor is, as always, an absolutely fantastic narrator. I do wish the story was a bit longer so that the characters could have more depth, and the story could make a bit more sense. I mean, this is essentially a historical romance about interracial marriage. So, I would've like a bit more history on Crash and a more in-depth account of how they found happiness in the long-term. Still, it was a very sweet story.

A sweet, if short, love story

I've listened to this book many times and every listen is a delight. I love the characters in Ms Milan's book. They're rich, yet earthy and likeable. I can relate to these characters, even Crash who is a bit of a scoundrel. He has a heart.as big as his personality. I also like that some of Ms. Milan's characters are people of color. In this book, the characters are a bit quirky and oh so interesting. Rosalyn Landor is a great narrator for this and other of Ms. Milan's books. Thank you ladies.

Lovely story, interesting characters

Beautiful story plot about a woman trying to open a business in a masculine controlled time period. Also, the hero is a person of color and it is so nice to see diversity in romance novels. It was also nice that none of the main characters were rich or titled. It gets old real fast when every hero is a Duke, earl or marquis.

refreshing

The story was ok but too short to truly develop and feel real connection with the characters. The narrator did a good job I just didn’t connect with the story.

A very sweet story about trials and triumphs... an encouragement for women to seek to fulfil their dreams, in spite of what others may think. well written, strong characters.
