Publisher's summary

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father - the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership.

In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner…are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon, Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side...and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Critic reviews

“Take one half-human/half-vampire female with serious anger and parental issues, add in a sexy ancient vampire with his own agenda, and you have the makings for a truly combustible series. Sign me up for the sequel!” (Romantic Times)

Easy and Sexy Read

I enjoyed this audiobook a lot. The story was a lot of fun and I absolutely adored Bones. He was amazing! The way he was so understanding of all of Cat's hangups and so easily professed his love. I could have fallen in love with him. I had to work up a liking to Cat though. She kept herself apart from everybody and the way the book was written kind of kept her apart from the reader and slowly opened her up and made her likable.

My biggest gripe in the book comes in the audiobook portion. The narrator was good but for some reason, the voice she gave Bones had a bit of a feminine hint to me and I just had a hard time reconciling the big bad tough vampire with that effeminate voice. Eventually, I just started imaging it was a deeper voice in my head.

Be forewarned, this book is more paranormal romance than urban fantasy and heavy on the romance. But if you like some cheesy romance, this is a great no thinking required read.

Awesome!!!!!!!

It's a Frost, how could it be bad? Characters & story were perfect. I love everything she writes. It's funny & serious at times scary with details (morbid) but its great. You can't go wrong with it I promise!!

Completely Addicted

I loved this book!! I am completely addicted to Cat and Bones (I have listened to to the book - ahem, cough...cough - 5 times)! This story is a wonderful tribute to the genre. I cannot wait until the next book in the series comes out in audio format. I have read all of the books, so far; but now, I want to hear the rest of them. The narrator is excellent and definitely makes the book all the more entertaining. If I could give the audio book 10 stars, I would not hesitate to do so.... Enjoy!

Decent Story

What made the experience of listening to Halfway to the Grave the most enjoyable?

The narrator was good, and some parts were suspenseful.

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

Some scenes were so damn stupid, or even disturbing, under the guise of being romantic. *Oh, I know my mother has been kidnapped, but I need to have sex with my vampire boyfriend to show him I love him even though I'm covered in my dead grandparents' blood.*

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The ending saved the book, for me. It's the only reason I bought the sequel.

Fun Story!

Where does Halfway to the Grave rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Fun story, the only negative is the overdone Cockney accent for Bones. Got hard to listen to after a while....

A funny, sexy urban fantasy= right up my ally!

Pros: The inner monologue of the main character, Cat, cracked me up through the entire book! I caught myself snorting a few times. This book is funny, sexy, and action-packed. No meek heroine here. The love interest, Bones, was exactly what I wanted him to be, and sometimes too good for the main character, Cat.
Cons: The narrator was great; very varied with several different characters and accents. However, I am not a fan of Bones' accent.... although probably spot-on with what an 18th century poor guy from London would sound like, his voice is hard to get used to.
Overall: I really enjoyed this book. Once I got used to Bones' annoying accent, I was all-in.

Love "Twilight" & was looking for similar books...

I found it! This series had a similar supernatural/vampire romance backround that I love, but was still different enough that I didn't feel like I was reading the same story. It was exactly what I was looking for. For me, I find that a great book is one that has me stealing time to listen every chance I get, and I was with this book! The main character, Cat, had a great mix of power and faults- her powers being supernatural, and one fault being her uncompromising hatred. Her captor, Bones, was a perfect "bad boy" with a conscience.

On top of all that, the narrator did a great job portraying all of the characters(can't stand listening to an awful narrator- no matter how good a book is). Overall, definately worth buying. The only problem I find is that there are(at this time) 2 more books in this series that aren't available in audio yet!!! I'm purchasing the 2nd today that just became available this week!
