Publisher's summary

Half-vampire Catherine Crawfield is going after the undead with a vengeance, hoping that one of these deadbeats is her father - the one responsible for ruining her mother's life. Then she's captured by Bones, a vampire bounty hunter, and is forced into an unlikely partnership.

In exchange for help finding her father, Cat agrees to train with the sexy night stalker until her battle reflexes are as sharp as his fangs. She's amazed she doesn't end up as his dinner…are there actually good vampires? Pretty soon, Bones will have her convinced that being half-dead doesn't have to be all bad. But before she can enjoy her status as kick-ass demon hunter, Cat and Bones are pursued by a group of killers. Now Cat will have to choose a side...and Bones is turning out to be as tempting as any man with a heartbeat.

Critic reviews

“Take one half-human/half-vampire female with serious anger and parental issues, add in a sexy ancient vampire with his own agenda, and you have the makings for a truly combustible series. Sign me up for the sequel!” (Romantic Times)

British accent made it more hilarious

Looking for a fun easy read this is was excellent. The narrator Tavia Gilbert really made Bone's voice. Honestly she made Kat and Bone's sexual innuendos, curses, and exasperations hilarious. I couldn't stop listening.

The hate to love romance was very nice. I had to stop multiple times to tell my husband why I was in giggle fits. But even though the main characters were opposites they fit together very well.

Fight scenes were witty and gruesome. The plot was a great introduction to the series and also the cliff hanger had me downloading the next story two seconds later.

I enjoyed the main characters a lot. Bone's was a force to be reckoned with but sweet and sure. Kate unpredictable and mouthy. They made an excellent team.

Although I didn't care for how Katherine belittles Timothy. And also her mother good grief she should just snapped her neck and be done with it. But a very compelling comedic story none the less. Looking forward to the rest.

awesome!!

I love the sarcasm in this book! Jeanine does an excellent job! I've laughed so much at the unexpected snarky, sarcastic and morbid sense of humor! the narrator does an excellent job! I wish she would narrate a lot of books!!

Stunning!

Great story plus amazing narration equals hours of listening pleasure. Cat and bones are delightful characters, each flawed, but still they manage to make it work. Jeaniene Frost has created a believable world in which vampires exist. The range of supporting characters round out this entertaining story.
Highly recommended for readers of paranormal stories with a romantic twist.

Good read

The story itself was great. Fun, unpredictable, and sexy when it needed to be. I honestly thought I predicted how a character was going to respond, only to be wrong. Not because they were out of character but because it was unique and original story telling.

I really liked this story-first erotica I've listened to and it wasn't awkward for me like I thought it might be. Cat is well rounded and smart, even if I don't like some of her choices. And Bones is my absolute favorite character because he's a guy who isn't afraid to be vulnerable. And not just a little bit but A LOT. He also doesn't lie. It's refreshing to see a guy share his feelings without being uncomfortable. Then again, he's had plenty of time to learn, considering how old he is.

Over all, the performance was the only thing that I felt wasn't the best. Tavia G read well but her voices for the different people were very jarring. It took me out of the story a lot of the time when she switched up to talk like someone else. And her english accent left...a lot to be desired. That said, when it was just normal reading, it was great. Kept me up till 5 am reading this! I definitely recommend it to anyone who wants a romantic supernatural story with cishet erotica of the vanilla sort.

Narration is the WORST

I want to like this book so much but the narration is so bad that I just about can’t listen to it. Bummer. I’ll probably buy the book and just read it instead.

Excellent!

This series never gets old. I normally don’t read books again but I decided to try the audiobook for this one since it’s been so many years since I read them. Gosh, it gets better each time! I remember how in the beginning, I didn’t like Bones and thought he was going to kill Kat in the cave. The author is so amazing at how she makes so much info flow throughout the book. I really despised Kat’s mother and grandparents and how they treated her but I can see how they needed to be this way to make the pieces all fit together. The narrator does such a great job at bringing out the personality of the characters. I can’t wait for the next one. I’m starting it now.
