Publisher's summary

New York Times best-selling author Julie Garwood takes breathless sensuality to thrilling heights in this unforgettable adventure of passion and intrigue.

The Emerald flew across the seas, carrying the pirate Pagan - despised by the ton, whose riches he plundered, and beloved by the poor, whose plight was eased by his gifts.

The Marquess of Cainewood vows to hunt down the pirate wretch in revenge for his brother's death. But when Jade, an enchanting vision of rippling red hair and eyes of jewel-green, appears at his door to beg desperately for his protection, the Marquess agrees to keep her safe from the villains who want her dead. Jade is infuriating, exasperating, and gorgeous; Caine is noble, strong-willed, and powerful. No woman has ever befuddled him so, nor so deeply aroused his desire. But as Jade answers his knowing caresses with an innocent, wild abandon, they are drawn into a web of treachery that will test the very heart of their love!

The Series Keeps Getting Better

Another good read by Garwood. I especially like this one because the heroine is not a simpering miss. She also has problems of her own and the hero has to do some sweet talking to win her over. Character development is also continuing to develop as we meet more people whose lives are intermingled.

Brilliantly written and performed

I found this story to be wonderful. The characters were beautifully performed and I giggled so much listening to this. Passion and humor were abundant and I love the characters. Can’t wait to start the next in series. I hate that I missed the first one.

Recommended

This was one of the first books I read by Julie Garwood, many many years ago. It was also a reason I got hooked on her grabbing up everything she comes out with.

Guardian Angel has it all, a passionate love, great characterization, mystery, suspense and a good storyline with lots of twists & turns. Now I'm able to say a terrific reader in Susan Duerden.

Excellent!

Wow this is one of the best I have read by this author (and all her books are pretty good). It is a historical but so much adventure, plot twists, spies, swoony hero and lots of slow burn. Heroine is at the top of my favorites.

A FUNNY, PASSIONATE & ENTERTAINING REGENCY ROMP

For any historical/romance lover who has read, or listened to, any of Julie Garwood's books in this genre then you pretty much know what you're going to get - a listen that will whisk you back in time to give you a glimpse of a story that you just won't want to leave.

This was exciting right from chapter one and continued to entertain me with humour, passion, plot twists, mysteries, not too explicit sex scenes, some really amusing characters that get themselves tied up in a funny, yet tender, romance about revenge, treachery, deceit and desire. The chemistry between Jade and Caine was the real focus of the story and, once again, JG's delivers a hero and heroine that are likeable and with whom you can sympathise with.

This was originally written in 1990 so I hope Audible will catch up with the rest of the series and add The Gift (1991) and Castles (1993) to it's library soon. It does have characters from book 1 The Lion's Lady but this could easily be a stand alone listen.

Worth a credit? It would have been, but at $7.34 for over 12 hours of listening pleasure, I just bought it and saved my credit for a pricier book - that may not be as enjoyable as this was but is double or treble the price.

Great love story with unexpected plot

The descriptions of the plot can't begin to tell the real story without spoiling the story, so disregard most everything you read in the publisher's data. This is a delightful story with a fabulous pair of lovers, where the woman is delightful. There's humor and danger and plenty of loving and exciting action. It's the 2nd in the series, and though it can stand alone, I'd definitely start right at the beginning.

Great book

Although this is classified as a romance it has a great mystery written in the story. So because the sex is pretty detailed my rating is 4 not 5 stars. I prefer more mystery then romance and sex to be left to more imagination.

Pagan vs. Hunter.

Glad to see another one of Julie Garwood's older books on audible and at a good price. Two more in the series to complete, but I'm hopeful we will see them. It is a sweet and silly romance with good characters. I'm a fan of Julie Garwood's older works, unfortunately her newer stuff is missing that special spark that she creates with this series and her highland books. Narrator was okay, sometimes a little on the screechy side.
