Book one in the Heroes of Henderson series by USA TODAY best-selling author Liz Kelly
What happens when best friends fall for the same girl?
A bromance, a romance, and a love triangle.
Local sports heroes Brooks Bennett and Vance Evans are used to being part of a winning team. Yet when it comes to romance their good cop, bad cop images have them handcuffed. They want a woman's point of view to help unshackle their reputations, and they've picked out one pretty, pony-tailed firecracker to do it.
Lolly DuVal longs for a summer fling that can set off all her bells and whistles. So she agrees to tutor Henderson's hunkiest heroes on what women really want. But now she finds herself caught between two cops and a hard place. And those bells and whistles? They are starting to sound a whole lot more like alarms.

I originally read Good Cop when it was released in 2013. I was looking for a good vacation book and one of my co-workers told me about a family friend that just published a novel. She said that it might be a bit steamy, and that her family was a little shocked that some of the characters were based on them. That intrigued me immediately! I LOVE steamy, and couldn't wait to get the dirt on the characters! I was hooked within the first chapter.
Coming from a large family myself, I thoroughly enjoyed how the storyline portrays the complexities of family drama, the importance of loyal friendships and the love of your hometown, in a very lighthearted and sexy way.
As I have read (and now listened) to the all of the "Heroes of Henderson" novels, I feel as though the characters are my friends and family. I look so forward to the next book as I can hardly wait to catch up on the weddings, births, gossip and hook-ups. And don't miss out on the novellas because they throw little twists into the mix!
Charles Lawrence was the perfect choice for this book! I listen to 2-3 audiobooks every week, and can easily say that the narrator is more important than the story in this format. He captures the characters perfectly and executes the reading so well. I guarantee you will end up sitting in your driveway, long after you get home.
I have had the pleasure of meeting Liz Kelly, and she is as sassy and vivacious as her stories. If you like happy endings, real people and good sex scenes, start reading...
Good Cop was loaded with sexy males that made me swoon and tingle, and their shenanigans, while trying to find love was full of laughs and sexy southern charm.
Brooks was the hero and my favorite character. He's always loved living in Henderson and he's committed to keeping the town safe and he hopes to be mayor someday. He's also loved Lolly for the past 5 years and he's determined to make her his while she's in town for the summer. He's a great guy!
Charles Lawrence is an awesome narrator! He does a beautiful job of changing voices with each main character, so much so that you know who is speaking at all times and he makes it so easy to follow the storyline. In this book everyone had southern accents! Charles is my favorite narrator so far. He's even great during sexy times! 😉
Yes! Because of other commitments I broke it down into several days but I could have enjoyed it in one sitting too.
I love this series and I plan to listen to all of it on Audible.
The humor!! The dialog in this story was fantastic! I love a romance with humor and this one had it in spades! Loved it!
My favorite scene in Good Cop is actually the conversation between Hale Evans and Lolly's mom when they finally admitted their feelings about being together and letting everyone else in on their secret. Also, when Hale took her to meet his mom. The dialog was so funny and sweet!
This is my first time listening to Charles Lawrence but I thought he did a fantastic job and will look for other audiobooks that he has done narration on.
Yes it was but unfortunately life gets in the way so I wasn't able to listen in one sitting although I did try.
Can't wait for Vance's story!
This is a fun sexy read that had me laughing out loud. With a strange little love triangle going on, Lolly DuVal has more male attention then she knows what do with. Brooks and Vance are best friends and now they both have their eye on the lovely Ms. DuVal. Brooks has always had a thing for Lolly but the age difference made him stay away. Well she's all grown up now and he's determined to make her his. Vance has issues with women. Outside the bedroom anyway. Lolly agrees to help him learn to appreciate women even when sex isn't involved. Vance finds himself unexpectedly attracted to Lolly but what about Brooks?? Who will win her heart, Good Cop Brooks or Bad Cop Vance??
Definitely a book I recommend.
This was my 1st book by Ms. Kelly I will definitely be read more/listening . I truly enjoyed your story and all the characters I cannot wait to see what happens next . Brooks an Lolly plus Lance had a wonderful time love lollies mom and her budding relationship. What song I thought the start line included an older couple also not just a younger couple

When it started out it seemed like it could become something entertaining but it never really got there. It was kind of boring and nothing that really engaged me.

Stars: Overall: 3 Narration: 4 Story: 3
I like small town settings: the struggle that characters experience in changing or altering their direction and personalities, not to mention gentle nudges to potential couples does often come into play. Brooks and Vance have never left town: and have managed to continue that childish competition from high school and macho posing into adulthood: even if the time for this is gone.
Brooks’ intentions are to make Henderson somewhere people WANT to be, and he truly is, in many regards, a throwback to a simpler time. Vince is actually a bit more stuck in the high school mentality, and never met a woman he wouldn’t make a play for.
Lolly is back in Henderson for the summer, there are decisions to be made, and she’s ripe for a summer fling. It’s safe back home, and who knows, with two of the hottest men in town…..
This is a pure candyfloss read, enjoyable and light, with a perfect mix of humor and steam, with low angst at the core. Brooks was completely developed and came forward as a solid character. Vance was more of a prototypical stuck in high school in thought, act and deed sort, and really had few redeeming features, with his competitive streak (it’s a girl –not a ball) most annoying. And Lolly – clueless and rather callous, not intentionally but a thoughtless streak (and lack of remorse that extended to an apology) were her constant companions. I thought that Brooks could do better, but he seems to like (and expect) a level of immaturity from his friends and lovers.
Narration for this story was provided by Charles Lawrence, the second title from him I’ve listened to. His work is wonderfully skilled, nuances and changes in delivery, pitch and tone clearly present each character’s part in the story, care is taken to allow listeners to absorb moments of import, and there was no over-acting or overreach for Lolly’s voice. Clearly skilled, his performance added to the story.
Overall – this isn’t a bad story: it’s light, it’s fun and everyone has met their own fair shares of Lollys and Vances. Brooks was the standout character in this story, with his solid ties to honorable behavior and a palpable sense of wanting to do the right thing. It’s a summer fling of a title, clever, intriguing, enjoyable and fun.
I received an AudioBook copy of the title from the author for purpose of honest review. I was not compensated for this review: all conclusions are my own responsibility.
Yes. Lots of interesting characters, humor, and conflict.
The relationships between all the characters in the small town.
Great job with all the voices and bringing the story to life.
Too long for one sitting, but I was engrossed.
Can't wait to listen to the next in the series, Bad Cop. Love that Vance.
I loved enjoyed this audio book right from the beginning as Brooks and Vance drew me in. Liz Kelly gets guy talk and the pair felt very real and believable. The heroine Lolly is caught in a love triangle between the two—one bad cop and one good cop—but it’s always clear which one she’s meant to be with. I will continue listening to the rest of the series
