Editorial reviews

"Irresistible, right down to the surprise at the end.... One of the best romances of the year." (The Detroit Free Press)

"A Desert Isle Keeper. Touching, ingenious.... I love this book. I've read it time after time, and even if I haven't waited quite long enough between readings to forget all the details, I always get drawn back into the story so intensely that I can't put it down. Grade: A (highest rating)." (AllAboutRomance.com)

"Moving, riveting, magical. Forever His is destined to become an all-time favorite in medieval and time-travel romances." (The Medieval Chronicle)

not quite five star

So I had high expectations for this book, after reading reviews. I agree with some, disagree with others. The narration, it was good except that this reader 'drops off' at the end of words and I couldn't hear them. Drove me crazy, if I had it loud enough to hear the ends, the rest was too loud. Haven't had this problem before. The story, parts of it were very exciting and kept my interest. But toward the end I kept thinking, come on already, this is too drawn out. Maybe it was the narration that added to wanting this to end. I do love a lot of time travel books. My favorite is still 'Knight in Shining Armor'. This one is not at that level. As others have said, Gaston was an arrogant alpha male. However, I think any warrior from the middle ages would be that way, and probably would not have changed into a loving caring man. One reason I would not actually want to go back in that time! This story is a fun concept, not very realistic but then fantasy is more fun. Might listen to another in this series.

Pretty good but not the best.

This book dragged on and on. It would have been better if it was shorter. I spent 8 of the 15 hours waiting to find out how everything would work out when she went home back to the future. I enjoyed the narrator. By the time I made it to the 13th hour I just wanted the book to end.

Any additional comments?

Celine Fontaine is a modern day woman from a wealthy family. She enjoys all of life's luxuries but due to a horrific incident in her past, Celine cannot find internal peace or happiness. As she rings in the new year in her family's French chateau, she feels overwhelmed by all the happy people and returns to her room to be alone. As she walks through the chateau, she looks at the initials on the archways above her and remembers her childhood fantasies of a man who loved his wife so much, that he carved their initials in the stone archways of his home. Celine wants a love like that and reflects on those thoughts as she stands in her room watching the eclipse of the moon. Suddenly, Celine finds herself in bed with a stranger and comes to learn, she has traveled back in time, to the year 1300. Sir Gaston de Varennes wakes to a beautiful woman in his bed. It is only when he see's her by the light of the moon that he realizes it is the woman the King has ordered him to marry, the niece of the most deceitful, treacherous man Gaston has ever known, the same man who murdered his father and brother. Gaston is immediately suspicious and demands to know how Christiane de la Fontaine got into his bed chamber. To say that modern day Celine Fontaine is confused and fearful is an understatement. Gaston is a tall, broad shoulder, gorgeous man with dark hair and eyes the color of coffee. There is an instant attraction between them, that bewilders both of them. As Celine finds herself married to Gaston the very next morning, her life changes drastically, but with her head held high, Celine takes on every task, every challenge Gaston throws at her. Gaston treats Celine with an over bearing, high handedness to keep from letting his desire for her, his wants, his passion, completely take over and truly make her his wife. With mistrust, a revengeful heart, suspicion and desire, Gaston finds it hard to believe Celine's story that she is not Christiane but is from seven hundred years in the future. Celine goes about her days with a positive attitude and drives Gaston crazy with her beauty. As passion pulls them together, Gaston refuses to engage his heart or his trust. With serious threats constantly surrounding them, they both struggle against the undeniable passion that keeps pulling them together. This is an amazing story by Author Shelly Thacker. There are breathtakingly beautiful and steamy hot love scenes between Gaston and Celine as they learn to believe in one another. Gaston has never believed in love, but Celine brings such a gift to him and lays it at his feet. You will fall in love with these characters and find yourself wishing you were Celine with Gaston by your side. An incredible, captivating story, that keeps you on the edge of your seat and doesn't let you go. Passionate and beautiful. A must read.

Breathtakingly Beautiful

Ms. Thacker has woven a captivating tapestry of love, mistrust, honor, and acceptance in this audio book. It is one of the most interesting romance books I have ever read. I am looking forward to listening to the other books in this series. The narrator was extraordinary. Her accents were spot on.

I Love This Book

Where does Forever His rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

This is my go-to feel-good book. Have listened to this audible book many times and never tire of the improbable story and interaction between Celine and Gaston. Would have enjoyed listening to more 20th century perspective observations about the 14th century - but the book is a refreshing escape to a seemingly simpler time.

3.5 OK Fantasy story

Enjoyable fantasy. Likable characters that grip readers as the story rolls along at a good pace. Unfortunately, there were a few major holes in the plot. For chapters, Gaston begs or tries to force his wife to reveal the villain's plot to the King. Yet when she finally can, he seems to suddenly reject this plan. The Hero came over a bit of a coward not wanting to defend himself and the heroine against the villain. Also wish more research was done, not just on the capacities of Middle Age armory and food stuffs. With all the amazing cosmological happenings in just our galaxy alone, a lunar eclipse was the best 'magical' event for time travel. Seriously?!
However since it is a fantasy story... I can say that it was an enjoyable listen just the same.

Julia Motyka did a good job with the delivery of the story

Couldn't Stop listening...

I was looking for a time travel romance so that's the reason I got this title and it did not disappoint. The time travel aspect was well worked and it was made as believable as possible. The story had so many twists and turns and they were quite unexpected. The romance was slowly and deliciously developed. It had a lot of action and adventure as well. It was thoroughly enjoyable. The narrator was ok at best but the story was so interesting that I could overlook (or overhear) her defects. Highly recommended to anyone who enjoys historical romances.
