Publisher's summary

Sometimes temptation…

A hardened mercenary as adept in bed as in battle, Simon Quinn can have any woman he wants, but he prefers those who know the rules of the game. That way it’s easier to leave them behind.…

Can't be avoided.

But Lysette Rousseau is one female he can’t figure out. Beautiful, sensual, seductive, she should be the perfect match for Simon, yet something about her ties him in knots. Bold and manipulative one time, sweetly innocent the next, she is an enigma bound to bring trouble…impossible to resist.

Great

I was afraid being the 4th book this might be pretty bad but I really enjoyed it. More than book 2 and 3. It could be a little confusing at times. I loved Simon and enjoyed the other side love stories. There was one scene when lovers met again after years that made me ache and felt feel what they were feeling. Narration was great as usual. There wasn’t a ton of sex scenes but enough.

Fabulous Story and Performance

I am so impressed with Justine Eyre’s ability to voice disparate characters. She is amazing. I have enjoyed Sylvia Day’s books better in this format than I did in written form.

not enough focus on the main romance

This book is fine if you don't mind the following:
1. A complicated storyline
2. A further complication of French names that are slightly similar (twins called Lynette and Lysette who get confused for each other and you as a listener get confused even though you never see them! also two important male characters De Garnier and De Jardin... these sound slightly similar to me)
3. A narrator who puts an inflection on every single sentence she says. Argh
4. Several romances going on at the same time, none of them fully developed in a convincing way.

I love Sylvia Day, but sometimes she does not develop the romance in a satisfying manner, and this was one of those cases where there was too much else going on in the story, and too many different romances... I would have loved to see what happened to both twin sisters in more detail, rather than hear all about the other elements of the plot in such detail.

I read all sorts of novels, not just romances, and it is my belief that very few romance authors do a good job of the "side story". Sylvia Day, Nora Roberts and Lisa Kleypas all SOMETIMES succeed - but this book was not an example of that.

Least favorite in the series

What did you like best about Don't Tempt Me? What did you like least?

I like books that are a part of a series, we get to know the characters as friends.

Would you ever listen to anything by Sylvia Day again?

Yes

Which scene was your favorite?

Not sure that I have one in this book.

Did Don't Tempt Me inspire you to do anything?

Turn it off but I chugged on through.

Any additional comments?

Out of the four books this is my least favorite. I found myself constantly stopping and having to replay parts. So many of the names are similar: eddington, edward - lissette, lynette, etc. I had trouble following each story line although they all ended up weaving into one as the end there were about 9 characters I was trying to follow at once, all doing different things and some that had no bearing on the story line. There are two prologues. Several things that were never answered and characters that switch places and you have no clue that they are not who the author says they are. Not an enjoyable book. This is one that I would suggest that the author get new friends to critique her story before sending it to her editor or get a new editor.

What even was that?

Fast and misplaced, I felt like I opened a book almost finished instead of starting at chapter one. I love Sylvia Day, but this book I can not keep up with what is happening.

Seriously... not tempted

Would you try another book from Sylvia Day and/or Justine Eyre?

I love other work by Sylvia Day and I had hoped that I would find some familiarity in this series but I was disappointed. I will try another book by Sylvia Day, but I will try a sample before investing in the book.

What could Sylvia Day have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?

I'm not a fan of historical work typically and I should have known better. The content was slow and I had a difficult time staying focused long enough to get involved in the storyline.

You didn’t love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?

I couldn't finish... Maybe later in the book something would have peaked my interest but I finally gave up.
