The British Are Coming! The British Are Coming!

Now a Wall Street Journal Best Seller

From New York Times best-selling author Ilsa Madden-Mills comes a new standalone romance....

A scarred fighter.
A girl with rules.
One night of unbridled passion.

There are three things you need to know about Elizabeth Bennett: She's smart as a whip, always in control, and lives by a set of carefully crafted rules. She's learned the hard way that people you love the most always hurt you in the end. But then she meets Declan Blay, the new neighbor at her apartment complex. A tattooed British street fighter, he's the campus bad boy she's supposed to avoid, but when he saves her from a frat party gone bad, all her rules about sex and love fly out the window. She gives him one night of unbridled passion, but he longs for more. With only a cardboard-thin wall separating their bedrooms, he dreams of possessing the vulnerable girl next door forever.

One night. Two damaged hearts. The passion of a lifetime.

A modern love story inspired by Pride and Prejudice.

Everything I love in a Contemporary Romance Book!!

What a Yummy book! This book has love, strength, drama, violence and sex. The perfect mixture for me. I loved the characters! Elizabeth is a damaged girl with amazing strength but a misguided idea of how to deal with her past. Declan is an underground fighter with a great heart, a protective side and British accent! I love how they deal with their issued and find what they need. The love story is sweet, the sex is hot, the drama not extreme and the ending was perfect. I knew the minute they talked about Pride & Prejudice that I would love this book <3 I very much enjoyed the authors writing style and I know the book would have been great in print but I am so glad I waited for audio, I think the narrators were a perfect fit.

I would definitely recommended this book to Contemporary Romance Readers!

Pleasantly surprised! Good story!

I went into this story with mixed reservations. I am an avid Pride and Prejudice fan. Comparing this book to my favorite all time literature is like comparing boxed wine to fine wine. Non-the-less this story is a good one. I would call it more Young Adult than contemporary. Declan and Elizabeth are characters that you can believe in. There are some "minor" characters in the background that also make the book interesting and at times amusing.

This story does address some very vile and real issues (including date rape), but does not detract from the overall story and only makes the heroine believable, admirable and strong as she struggles to put her life back together. The book shows this is a slow process.

The love story between Declan and Elizabeth is swoon worthy.

In the end, this book is credit worthy and most definitely sale worthy.

Narration: Summer Morton's performance is okay ... .not stellar but I found John Harleys female voice performance extremely lacking, which is why I knocked down the rating.

Absobloodylootely!

Dirty English is a fantastic falling in love story about two characters who finally learned not to let their past get in the way of their future, and was filled with drama, angst, violence, and romance. The romance between theses two characters was fairly mild compared to some of the more hotter and steamier stories I listen too, but well worth the time invested in listening.

Some Spoilers:
More of a young adult romance with adult themes, these characters survived loss, heartache, and questionable upbringings. Taking place in college scene with frat parties, classes, and drama, two scarred souls find each other. Declan has suffered loss, and is searching for someone to fill the void and fall in love with, while Elizabeth, who was brutally betrayed by her high school boyfriend, is unable to open or allow herself to fall in love again. There's no denying the immediate attraction between these two characters; however, Elizabeth is afraid and constantly pushes Declan away.

Audible has some of the BEST narrators! Here's another example of two very talented narrators, Summer Morton and John Hartley. This duo did an OUTSTANDING job narrating this story!

Definitely recommend Dirty English for any "Romantic at Heart" who loves a HEA for two deserving characters. It's credit worthy but as a KU/Whisersync it was a KNOCKOUT of a deal! I'm looking forward to the next book being released in audio!

4 Dirty English Stars

Elizabeth Bennett wasn’t who I was expecting, I have to say she surprised me.

When I first started reading I thought oh no another meek girl, but she wasn’t and I enjoyed that.

But I am a Declan fan through and through he stole my heart from the get go and wouldn’t let it go. I think his brother Dax’s its equally as hunky and I can’t wait to hop on to his book.. book people. :p

I like the back and forth with Elizabeth and Declan. I like that she wasn’t over eager she let it happen. Even if he was kinda eye .. watching her.. Stop with the dirty minds. :p

Also I havvvve to say it, the beating people up in books is totally hot! So Declan again scores another point for that. ❤

Loveddd the narration couldn’t get enough! Summer Morton, John Hartley really bring these characters to life, I am so glad they had a British or a male narrator who does a British accent well.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

Awe-Struck!

The leading lady, Elizabeth has a past she needs to square with and Declan is a man who knows how to fight for what he wants. In this beautiful, emotional, exciting book my heart beat fast, swelled and in the end left me so happy that I take off my hat to the author! Well done! I'll read anything she writes after this one! Love!!! Love!!! Loved, it!!

Sweet Couple!

I enjoyed this, it wasn't particularly edgy but enjoyed the banter and the relationship dynamics. I also liked that for once Declan and Elizabeth stated (occasionally) what they were actually feeling and we didn't spend the entire book with (what's really going on?). I liked Declan being and showing a little more vulnerability. The narrators were both good, but John Hartley was Outstanding. I will listen to him again! Beautiful sexy accent.

Thanks Ilsa

Quick, fun listen

How could I not love a book about a sexy as hell Britt trying to conquer a tough as nails chick?

This is on the lighter side, not a ton of angst so it was a nice pallet cleanser between the deeper and darker that I usually gravitate to.

The narrators were spot on, accents and all.

Dirty and English...yum!!

First book for either narrator Summer Morton or John Hartley, and they were amazing. I love an English accent, but it can be hard to make a romance book sound sexy without being cheesy, which was not the case here. I LOVED John Hartley's voice. It brought a lot to the story's listening pleasure and to the character for me.
I wasn't too sure about this book based on the blurb, and to be honest, the story wasn't original, hence I only rated that 3-stars. In addition the story stretched a little long without much substance for a bit in the middle. However, aside from these short-lived downsides, when the story was moving it was incredibly well done and there were some great characters. I really hope there is a follow up for Declan's twin brother Dax- more yum! Also, I love a good best friend to the main female character, and Elizabeth had that in this story with her best friend.
I usually am not a big fan of a female character having a lot of internal verbal banter in her head but Elizabeth was funny enough that I laughed out loud multiple times. I cringed a couple times when I wanted her to just say whatever she was thinking with Declan but it kept the angst going for a little bit.
Overall I gave this 4 stars and I would definitely recommend this as a listen, especially if you like a hot English accent (with a twin too)!!

Juvenile!

Even in a fantasy world, I can't imagine that people talk like this. Very juvenile dialogue. This seems to be craze tho so I'm guess I will just keep returning them. I tend to like a little romance in my romance books. Also, Elizabeth might have a little Sible in her cause she has about 10 different personalities. Despite her history, it's just weird. Sorry.

Superficial, self-destructive, and juvenile

This was my first and last book by this author. The only thing I liked was the British accent and even that was dimmed by the male narrator’s cringey female voices. The summary claims Elizabeth is “smart as a whip, always in control, and lives by carefully crafted rules” but she’s exactly opposite; Elizabeth never does anything smart, is out of control, and impulsively, irrationally insists on having nothing but one night stands as the response to being abused on prom night. The number of horrible, triggering, cliche plot devices is through the roof, with rape, suicide, cancer, scarred-bodies, controlling parents, manipulative lovers, and attempted homicide. There’s nothing to balance all that angst except juvenile dialogue and cheesy repeated scenes where our couple meets in the rain or appears in shorts (him in nothing but boxer briefs and her always in some sort of short-shorts or hot pants). This felt more middle school awkweird than college wild.

For better books with similar themes, I recommend:
🌶For the bad boy / nerdy neighbor plot, try Melt For You by JT Geissinger (with a sexy Scottish accent)
🌶If you wanted hotter for a book with “dirty” in the title, go with Dirty Sexy Saint
🌶If you’ve just gotta have that British accent, try The Sure Thing by Jana Aston
or The Dare by Lauren Landish
