Since half-vampire Cat Crawfield and her undead lover Bones met six years ago, they’ve fought against the rogue undead, battled a vengeful Master vampire, and pledged their devotion with a blood bond. Now it’s time for a vacation. But their hopes for a perfect Paris holiday are dashed when Cat awakes one night in terror. She’s having visions of a vampire named Gregor, who’s more powerful than Bones and has ties to her past that even Cat herself didn’t know about.
Gregor believes Cat is his and won’t stop until he has her. As the battle begins between the vamp who haunts her nightmares and the one who holds her heart, only Cat can break Gregor’s hold over her. She’ll need all the power she can summon in order to bring down the baddest bloodsucker she’s ever faced … even if getting that power will result in an early grave.

“Frost’s dazzling blend of urban fantasy action and passionate relationships makes her a true phenomenon.” (Romantic Times)
“Destined for an Early Grave holds big changes and many surprises for fans of the series, and should not be missed.” (Darque Reviews)
“Sexy, nonstop thrills.” (Melissa Marr, New York Times best-selling author)
This series keeps getting more addictive with every book. I love the characters, the dialogue and the action. I like that Frost doesn't make Bones and Cat's relationship storybook. Instead, they have to fight to make things work and this book was a prime definition of fighting for a relationship. I got so caught up in the audiobook that I ended up just sitting in my bedroom listening to the last 2 1/2 hours because I had to know how it was going to turn out. There were a couple of unexpected turns in this book. Once again Gilbert does an excellent job with the narration. Even her voice for Bones is starting to grow on me.
I have never been very interested in paranormal books. I ran across the first book in this series on my Library's web-site and downloaded it. I loved listening to it and I have since purchased all the audio books in this series.
Of course I love Cat and Bones, that goes without saying. But I also like Spade, Mencheres, and Vlad Tepesh. I also like Cat's mom, she's a hoot.
Yes, I listened to my this story on my ipod all day while I was doing some outside work.
Yes, I would highly recommend this book to all who love a paranormal romance.
Bones. He is so intense. His love for Cat transcends everything else.
Tavia Gilbert is pure perfection. She is THE best narrator there is. She brings so much intensity to the reading.
A Girl, a Ghost and a Ghoul..
This is a wonderful 4th book in the Night Huntress series. It had a lot more ups and downs than the other three books. This book had to all. No spoilers here but if you like Jeaniene Frost you will fall in love with Cat and Bones. Buy this book.
I must say I am a Jeaniene Frost Fan for life... I love everything she has written... and will continue to buy and read what ever she produces. I am definitely addicted to Cat and Bones and their friends.
I Love a great supernatural tale, a Love story, PNR, a Cool Mystery and Most Sci-Fi....if there are vampires, weres or witches in it, that's a plus! Basically I am a 40+ y/o young at heart woman rediscovering the wonderful world of books and am now addicted! Lol I LOVE AUDIBLE!!!!!
This is #4 in the Night Huntress series it was really good, but not my fave of the 4 I have read...I liked mostly everything about it, but don't want to say to much because I don't like to give away spoilers.....Read it....If your a Cat and Bones fan, you will love it!!!
I have devoured this series....I don't think my interest will ever fade....this is my fave PNR series so far!
Yes SHE does.....she has a true gift, and I am eager to read her other series! She is descriptive, humorous, and truly dedicated in her craft!
NOTHING!!!! Tavia does it again!!!!!!
Just because this was not my fave of this series, does not mean I did not enjoy it thoroughly.....I did....and am starting #5 right now!!!!
I'll have to get back to you on that.
Stopped making a Mary Sue and Gary Stu out of Cat and Bones. They are becoming way overpowered.
Not use Valley girl accent for very minor/secondary female characters nor nasally, whiny intonations for minor/secondary male characters. The Valley girl accent totally took off 1.5 - 2 stars in performance for me.
The kiss-and-make-up sex scene.
I was about to start Book 5 when I read a couple of reviews warning that it contained spoilers for the Night Huntress World Books 1 and 2, side stories which are apparently a VERY good idea to read if you don't want to be a little confused about how did what happened when and who's who in Book 5. Sooo, off I went to get those two books I had initially not intended to read.
I grew up with books....not television.
Usually, a series can tend to get dull after so many books, not this one....I've read them all and still waiting for another to come out. Cat and Bones are the ultimate supernatural couple and their "interactions" are some of the steamiest, hottest and best written scenes I've had the pleasure of reading so far. Most erotic scenes I've read in other books are just ridiculous or predictable....to the point where I'm rolling my eyes . Not the scenes between Cat and Bones...they are fantastically written and the imagery you get is best experienced in a dim room behind closed doors. It's just that good.
If you are a fan of this genre - THIS is the series to own. Worth every credit or penny you spend.
Why yes, I do frequently burst out in song!
Great series. Is there a missing Audio Book? I noticed some details in the next book 'This Side of the Grave' that was not covered in this Book.
When did Denise become a ghoul? When did Cat use her kinetic power to damage furniture and save her friends?
Apparently I am so into this series, I would love to hear what happened.
Drac and Ian - got a real chuckle - their humor is so suttle.. and Minkeries... Yipeee
Bones and Cat - Hot Hot Hot!
Would love to hear the missing pieces, between this book and This Side of the Grave - this is the first time I noticed missing pieces of the story.
Yes, I drive long hours so it did keep me entertained but I was cursing Cat out most of the time.
Yes, but I was disappointed with this one.
First off, the narrator makes Gregor sound like Borat...it was so painful for me to hear. I love Bones' character but his voice is annoying as well - but I can deal, Gregor was another story...horrible (kept picturing Sasha Baron Cohen). I was definitely on Team Bones w/ this book - Cat was very annoying and I hated the double standards where she was so quick to assume the worst with Bones when she herself made horrible decision after another (imagine if someone would have been snapping photos when she was at a certain famous vampires house...in bed with him). Oh my goodness I was cursing her out the whole way home. I don't want to spoil the book so I won't give any spoilers but I just didn't feel this book fit the characters that had been portrayed in the first 3 books. They were so unfamiliar and neurotic -felt like a forced fight and as a result, the predictable separation, then reunion. Hated the Gregor storyline and the changes that Cat underwent came out of nowhere caught me totally off guard, seemed rushed to me. I'll still read additional book was I can't say I really enjoyed this like the first 3 books.
Loved the relationship with all the characters, the humor, the love, the compassion, the hate...
She does a wonderful job acting. It feels like you are listening to a room full of characters.
well read and versed i couldnt tun it off and listened until the book finished ALL DAY
