Publisher's summary

MacKayla Lane's life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she's your perfectly ordinary 21st-century woman.

Or so she thinks...until something extraordinary happens.

When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death - a cryptic message on Mac's cell phone - Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers.

The quest to find her sister's killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed - a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae.

As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister's death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane - an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women - closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac's true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book - because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds.

Easy to follow and easy to enjoy

This was the first novel of a "darker" or supernatural tone that I ever read. Having no history or understanding of fae lore or anything such, the story was presented in a way that made it easy to grasp and enjoy. Wanting to listen to stories while out walking, I downloaded the audio version for a second "read" and was just as entertained as the first time through, and excited to continue the series!

As for the narration, I think it was the perfect balance of tone and cadence.

Very well done on both accounts.

Not A Romance Novel

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The heroine was annoying. At least the daft and naive southern bell improved as the story progressed. The reader could not pull off an Irish accent, and why she was chosen for the performance is anyones guess. Thirdly the Tuatha Dé Danann have been made into villains, which is disgracing and twisting Irish history and mythology to far.

If you’ve listened to books by Karen Marie Moning before, how does this one compare?

I listened to her Highlander books, which are more what I expect from a fantasy romance novel.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

The narrator distracted, because she could not speak with and Irish accent.

Do you think Darkfever needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

No, not for me. I am a romance book reader and this is not a romance book.

why can't they get a southerner to ....

Why can't they hire a southerner to narrate this book instead of someone pretending to be a southerner? or maybe just read in her normal voice? Do you have any idea how her voice sounds to someone actually from the South? Maybe like myself being from Alabama trying to talk like a yankee lol
I'm sure the narrator is awesome at every other voice but cone on she's not from Georgia

Loved It!

I love this series. I have read the books already, but wanted to hear it. Great job Joyce Bean! And to those who made comments about Mac being self centered, that is the point of her personality. The growth and change of Mac is what the reader is pushed towards. A southern, spoiled, pretty girl forced to become a warrior.
