Publisher's summary

MacKayla Lane's life is good. She has great friends, a decent job, and a car that breaks down only every other week or so. In other words, she's your perfectly ordinary 21st-century woman.

Or so she thinks...until something extraordinary happens.

When her sister is murdered, leaving a single clue to her death - a cryptic message on Mac's cell phone - Mac journeys to Ireland in search of answers.

The quest to find her sister's killer draws her into a shadowy realm where nothing is as it seems, where good and evil wear the same treacherously seductive mask. She is soon faced with an even greater challenge: staying alive long enough to learn how to handle a power she had no idea she possessed - a gift that allows her to see beyond the world of man, into the dangerous realm of the Fae.

As Mac delves deeper into the mystery of her sister's death, her every move is shadowed by the dark, mysterious Jericho, a man with no past and only mockery for a future. As she begins to close in on the truth, the ruthless Vlane - an alpha Fae who makes sex an addiction for human women - closes in on her. And as the boundary between worlds begins to crumble, Mac's true mission becomes clear: find the elusive Sinsar Dubh before someone else claims the all-powerful Dark Book - because whoever gets to it first holds nothing less than complete control of the very fabric of both worlds.

Story good narrator eh

I read the series in hardcover and loved it. I wasn't as happy with the audio book... Didn't enjoy the narrator. She makes male characters sound like leprechauns.

Regrettably, A last resort read

The plot made sense. The heroine made sense. The antagonist made sense. Yet, the story left this reader unaffected and frequently...bored. Each chapter seemed to have so many extremes there never seemed anything solid enough to hang onto.

Brilliant narrator

I really wish the story had evolved a bit faster, but I enjoyed and damn but I am hooked for the next...I need more chemistry between Mac and Barons though...very odd.

A bit slow to start, but sucks you in

I was skeptical in the beginning. Though Everything I read in the 1st part of the book was very necessary to understand the rest of the book with character and world building. Then I started becoming invested towards the end and knew I would want to continue with the series. I really hope the bookstore owner Mr. Barons is going to be a love interest in the future and not deceive Mac. I recommend, this is my first with this author and I'm definitely enjoying myself

Great story of mystery and fantasy

The story starts a little slowly, and the main character seemed a bit too shallow, vapid, and annoying at first, but once everything got moving, and MacKayla had been in Ireland for a full day or two, things really picked up. I thought that the book was a great first book for a series.

It started with an intimate murder mystery that the main character needed to solve for herself and her family, but built into a larger,
more complex story about a hidden side of reality, the Fae and their agenda, and the search we for then on which a series can easily be based.

incredible

This book, the performance, everything was incredible. I was in a reading slump and couldn't figure out what to read. I've tried to read this book without audible and found myself distracted and not absorbing it. This is 100% one of the best books I've ever read, there is no easily figured out plot. everytime I tried to guess something I was wrong. it really was amazing.

Great Potential

This story has wonderful potential, but the narrator distracted from the story with the off-the-mark voices and parts of the story itself detracted from the enjoyment overall because they seemed wholly unnecessary and purely existing for smuttiness rather than that of being crucial to move the story forward.

I hope it gets better. I won't be listening to book 2, however. I'm hesitant to read it, as well, but I want to give the series a fair chance. The story itself is rather interesting and I want to see what happens.

Fourth time!!

I absolutely love this book series. It’s action romance. Mystery leaves you on your toes. It’s also got fantasy. It’s a bit of everything in one book. I never thought I would reread a book let alone as many as I have on this book series.

Great Story Horrible Narrating!

I read this book before when it first came out and fell in love with the series, I hadn't read the last 3 books so I figured why not start over from the start.. the narrator makes the guys voices horrible. They didn't sound dreamy or dark just a accent that made them sound really old. Not what I expected at all. The story is great but man.. its hard to listen to
