Critic reviews

"Narrator Ellen Archer dives into the story with abandon and is clearly enjoying herself with the rich cast of characters, including an upper-crust English spinster, a disheveled Welsh doctor, and the White Rajah, a charismatic hermit who lives in a nearby monastery. Archer also offers a thoughtful, rich performance as Julia, who slyly competes with her husband to solve the case." ( AudioFile)

I love this series!

I'm glad Lady Julia and Brisbane are back! Their romance is so sweet, Brisbane is a very good detective and the story plot is well thought out. I loved this book the hours flew by and I wish it was longer.

Amazing narration

The narrator is amazing as always, I never really noticed it but the way she does Brisbanes voice is amazing, you definitely hear the part Scottish in the voice, at first I wasnt sure if it was on accident but now I know it's on purpose. Theres also a part near the end where she sings a bit too, lovely voice!

Excellent as always!

This series gets better and better! I love the mix of wit, romance, mystery and a good dose of comedy to allay the emotion brought on by the quite devilish murders the main characters must solve. They are complex and well created.

I really appreciate that there’s growth and development in the characters and their relationship with each other. Each of the characters are superbly written!

Ellen Archer’s narration is flawless and I forget I’m listening to a book, getting swept up in the voices and the story. It’s like listening to a movie or a play. She is a wizard with the different accents and making sure each character has their own unique sound.

Please, please keep writing books for this series!!! It is one of my favorites and I can’t wait for the next book!!!!

Entertaining mystery.

I enjoyed this story enough to investigate the rest of the series. The English Upper Classes traveling in India is interesting. The murder mystery was good. I enjoyed it and did not guess the culprit like I often do.
I found this to be a good but not a great book for me.
The reader was adequate, but some of the voices were too over the top.
What was missing for me in this book was humor. That often makes a book special and rounds out the characters. I followed the story here but I did not care about the characters. The story did not evoke any strong emotion and I will forget it quickly but I did enjoy it and will probably try another of this series.

Longer Road than Needed

I’ve enjoyed all the Lady Julia stories but this one dragged on a little too long for my taste. The revelation of the initial murderer took hours I will never get back, especially when I figured out who it was almost from the moment of introduction. It’s always the least likely character.

Brisbane finally wore out my last nerve in this book. I understand his need to protect Julia, but if he had filled her in on some of his exploits, she might not have rushed into dangerous waters so willy-nilly. The lack of trust between them was not enjoyable reading.

This is the last book of the series included in the Romance Package, but even if it were not, I doubt I’d listen to anymore. Enough is enough.

However, I can’t say enough good things about the narrator, she is fabulous! If only all audio books were read as well as hers.

Great!

This is truly a great series with a fabulous heroine. The writing is delightful and this story is quite interesting and can't-put-down good. The locale is in the Himalayas and we learn a bit about the history of India and the neighboring kingdoms.

The mystery is almost secondary to the growing relationship between Lady Julia and Brisbane and the members of their individual families. Portia is one of my favorite characters.

I didn't see the ending coming at all. It was tough to take.

The narration is very good but I have to mention that there have been mispronounced words in each book so far. This time the worst one was pronouncing viscount as Viss-count instead of vy-count.

I'm so glad there are more books!
