Publisher's summary

Enter the enchanting world of the Carpathians, where dark adventure, mystery, and love await, and the desires of two daring hearts unite in one irresistible passion.

A telepathic hunter of serial killers, Raven Whitney helps to catch some of the most depraved criminals. But her work keeps her from getting close to others, and has drained her body and spirit. In need of rest and rejuvenation, she embarks for a vacation far from home.

Mikhail Dubrinsky is the prince of the Carpathians, the powerful leader of a wise and secret ancient race that thrives in the night. Engulfed by despair, fearful of never finding the mate who can save him from the encroaching darkness, his soul cries out in loneliness - until the day that a beautiful voice full of light and love responds, softly soothing his pain and yearning.

From the moment they meet, Raven and Mikhail are helpless to resist the desire that sparks between them. But just as fate unexpectedly brings these life mates together, malevolent forces threaten to destroy them and their fragile love. Yet even if they survive, how can these two lovers - Carpathian and human - build a future together? And how can Mikhail bring Raven into his dark world without extinguishing her beautiful goodness and light?

Love the Story, Hate the Narration

I'd read this series years ago and liked all of them. So I thought I'd treat myself to the narrated version. What a whiny, over melodramatic syrup fest. The narrator made the heroine into a whiny, wimp. Yuck...too much cotton candy makes one quite ill.

The 2nd time around is just as good or better

Christine Feehan is Awsome, I did not think she could make this story any better, but I was wrong. The narrator is great too, you will not be disappointed.

Good book

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Great start to the series - good storyline - took a bit to get past the long drawn out sex scenes but ffwd works well.

Dark Prince

I was VERY disappointed with the audio version of this book!!! More than half the book, the narrator made Raven sound as though she were crying, and a weakling!!! I bought this book, thinking it would have five additional hours of dialog. No such luck. There was a few places that included deleted dialog, but the added time was mostly due to her reading it slower!
Its a shame that Abby Craden did not read the character of Raven better, she has a nice voice, but did not use it, nor protray Raven's character as the strong woman she was in the books.
I wonder if Christine has hear this, and if so, what she thinks...

What a female lead...

If you're looking for longer length of listen and somewhat exaggerated drama, then this book will work for you.

The story started off with a strong initial pull which was effective. However, the female lead descends from promisingly strong to almost insufferably whiny, obstinate and obtusely difficult which in turn made her weak. Ironically, her 'innate need' for self preservation was the very thing that continuously caused her to put herself -along with those bound to protect her- in harm's way.

I managed to get through the entire book, with effort, in the hope that somehow Raven would find her true inner strength and become the ally and partner to her hero, that she proclaimed herself to be.

No Spoilers, so I will not reveal whether or not my hope was realized. If you like a true damsel, completely reliant on her hero, while inadvertently hurling obstacles in their way throughout the story, then you will enjoy this book.

Note on Narrator - While her overall narration was very good, with accurate inflection and effectively dramatic pauses, I found her portrayal of Raven an unfortunate addition to my annoyance with her character, with a high pitched, whiny, breathy voice.

Definitely worth a credit

I was amazed this book got so many negative reviews. The story was creative and well written. It's a great read if you like books about fated mates.

it took me a few minutes to get used to the narrator but after a few minutes I was so wrapped up in the story that I didn't notice anymore.
