Publisher's Summary

Zarek's point of view:

"Dark-Hunter: a soulless guardian who stands between mankind and those who would see mankind destroyed. Yeah, right. The only part of that Code of Honor I got was eternity and solitude.

"Insanity: A condition many say I suffer from after being alone for so long. But I don't suffer from my insanity - I enjoy every minute of it.

"Trust: I can't trust anyone...not even myself. The only thing I trust in is my ability to do the wrong thing in any situation and to hurt anyone who gets in my way.

"Truth: I endured a lifetime as a Roman slave, and 900 years as an exiled Dark-Hunter. Now I'm tired of enduring. I want the truth about what happened the night I was exiled - I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

"Astrid (Greek, meaning star): An exceptional woman who can see straight to the truth. Brave and strong, she is a point of light in the darkness. She touches me and I tremble. She smiles and my cold heart shatters.

"Zarek: They say even the most damned man can be forgiven. I never believed that until the night Astrid opened her door to me and made this feral beast want to be human again. Made me want to love and be loved. But how can an ex-slave whose soul is owned by a Greek goddess ever dream of touching, let alone holding, a fiery star?"

Love in vein: listen to another Dark-Hunter novel.

What the Critics Say

"In turns angst-filled and laugh-out-loud funny, her latest once again delivers a sensual, fast-paced read with a hero who is definitely worth the risk." (Booklist)

    "Narrator kept me especially interested"
If you could sum up Dance with the Devil in three words, what would they be?

    Solid 3 stars

How would you have changed the story to make it more enjoyable?

I read both Styxx an Acheron before starting the series. Both those books described their misery in such detail that I experience a certain level of despair for them. Zarak's childhood into adulthood was miserable but differently. I would have liked to experience the same sort of emotion when I read S & A but it just didn't quite make it. Good effort but for some reason it don't evoke the emotion.

Which character – as performed by Fred Berman – was your favorite?

    Simi -- consistent and fun

    Any additional comments?

Zarak's world was isolated and I felt that in Berman's narration. He has a quality that makes you actually feel the story is being told for you only. However, his Zarak voice was confusing to me... Zarak is Greek and quite a bit was made of that but Berman's accent was not quite right. I couldn't tell if he was trying for a Greek accent or light English.

I prefer urban/para romance right now for the fantasy aspect, but I listen to other genres as well.

    Story
    "Love, Love, Loved This"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I have become more fussy, but this one is a five star for me. The story is so solid. A character who feels so broken and unredeemable that he has decided he can't be loved and he can't trust anyone. He is lost and alone and sees no reason to change, not that he would if there was a reason. Or so he thinks.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I loved both Zarek and Astrid

What about Fred Berman’s performance did you like?

Fred Berman is one of my favorites. I have listened to other books that weren't familiar to me because he was the narrator

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

There were several instances that pulled at my heart. I really liked this book a lot. It has a lot of repeat listen potential

    Any additional comments?

This is one of Sherrilyn Kenyon's best in my opinion. I like it when an author can build up a character then really dig in and strip away the barriers to get to the heart below.

    "Bravo, Mr. Berman"

First off, the narration of this book greatly improved my listening experience. All of the characters had a distinct voice and were easily distinguished from each other. My favorite character in this book was Simi, Berman did such a good job voicing this character it blew me away.
This book brought my interest back to this series. Although the books are very popular, I did not love the previous novels. In fact, I only purchased this story because it was on sale and am so glad I did. My interest in Dark Hunters has been renewed.
I really enjoyed this story. The hero is a flawed man who has lived through brutal experience and gross injustice after gross injustice. Very early in this book readers are able to discern the realZarek from the one perceived by the rest of the world. My one and only complaint is that by comparison the heroine is flat and not very well developed.
I also appreciated all of the secondary characters and look forward to hearing more about them in subsequent stories.

"Makes you laugh, makes you cry."
Would you consider the audio edition of Dance with the Devil to be better than the print version?

Yes the audio version lets you experience another dimension with the tallents of the narrator giving personality and unique accents to each character. I thoroughly enjoyed this dark hunter novel in audio format.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Dance with the Devil?

When the author let it be known that Zarek lived in that shack in Alaska all alone whittiling even the walls to stay sane. And then finding out he gave them away to his neighbors in the town unbenownst to any of them.

    Which scene was your favorite?

When he was allowed to finally get rid of his virginity.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

It certainly did. I laughed out loud, and cried quietly, experienced anger, hope, hate. I experienced the whole gamut of emotions.

    Any additional comments?

Fred Bermnan is the undisputed champion narrator of these novels. However Holter Graham is my second favorive reader of these novels, although his women portrayal is a bit whiney.

I read all the time, or nearly. I always have, I guess, since I was very young ... and now, getting older, more audio than any other medium.

    "Pretty good"

This is a typical book by an author whose books all have essentially the same plot, with a couple of notable exceptions. It's not the kind of book you will remember very long after you read it, but it's enjoyable. It's sexy. It's pure fun. Don't over-think the story or the characters and you will have a fine time.

Don't expect great literature. This is a great beach read or time filler on a rainy day. Narration is good, and the story moves along at a nice pace. Definitely a "chick" book.

    "I liked it, but..."

OK, I will admit that I am a fan of vampire stories and romances, even steamy romances, but this took steamy to a new level. Honestly, the graphic sex scenes would give this book a Hard R rating, or possibly an NC-17. While the story was fun, I felt that often the sex scenes would be used in place of truly forwarding the story. Still, I ordered a few more of the books in the series, so... Guess that is the best review of them all!

    "ehhh ok"
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

This is the first book i have ever read/listened to by this author. I have actually tried to listen to it a few times but couldn't get into it. I'm forcing myself to listen to it now since I did buy it. Its ok. The narrator could be better... or maybe it the accent he gives to Zarek(sp) makes him sound girly.

Would you be willing to try another book from Sherrilyn Kenyon? Why or why not?

    I don't know right now.

What didn’t you like about Fred Berman’s performance?

made the main character sound like a girl.
