Zarek's point of view:
"Dark-Hunter: a soulless guardian who stands between mankind and those who would see mankind destroyed. Yeah, right. The only part of that Code of Honor I got was eternity and solitude.
"Insanity: A condition many say I suffer from after being alone for so long. But I don't suffer from my insanity - I enjoy every minute of it.
"Trust: I can't trust anyone...not even myself. The only thing I trust in is my ability to do the wrong thing in any situation and to hurt anyone who gets in my way.
"Truth: I endured a lifetime as a Roman slave, and 900 years as an exiled Dark-Hunter. Now I'm tired of enduring. I want the truth about what happened the night I was exiled - I have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
"Astrid (Greek, meaning star): An exceptional woman who can see straight to the truth. Brave and strong, she is a point of light in the darkness. She touches me and I tremble. She smiles and my cold heart shatters.
"Zarek: They say even the most damned man can be forgiven. I never believed that until the night Astrid opened her door to me and made this feral beast want to be human again. Made me want to love and be loved. But how can an ex-slave whose soul is owned by a Greek goddess ever dream of touching, let alone holding, a fiery star?"
Love in vein: listen to another Dark-Hunter novel.

"In turns angst-filled and laugh-out-loud funny, her latest once again delivers a sensual, fast-paced read with a hero who is definitely worth the risk." (Booklist)
Sherrilyn Kenyon is a great writer that keeps the story moving. It was well worth the read and I have been following the series and can't wait until the next book.
I read all the time, or nearly. I always have, I guess, since I was very young ... and now, getting older, more audio than any other medium.
This is a typical book by an author whose books all have essentially the same plot, with a couple of notable exceptions. It's not the kind of book you will remember very long after you read it, but it's enjoyable. It's sexy. It's pure fun. Don't over-think the story or the characters and you will have a fine time.
Don't expect great literature. This is a great beach read or time filler on a rainy day. Narration is good, and the story moves along at a nice pace. Definitely a "chick" book.
OK, I will admit that I am a fan of vampire stories and romances, even steamy romances, but this took steamy to a new level. Honestly, the graphic sex scenes would give this book a Hard R rating, or possibly an NC-17. While the story was fun, I felt that often the sex scenes would be used in place of truly forwarding the story. Still, I ordered a few more of the books in the series, so... Guess that is the best review of them all!
This is the first book i have ever read/listened to by this author. I have actually tried to listen to it a few times but couldn't get into it. I'm forcing myself to listen to it now since I did buy it. Its ok. The narrator could be better... or maybe it the accent he gives to Zarek(sp) makes him sound girly.
I don't know right now.
made the main character sound like a girl.
Has to be my favorite one I have read, Zarek has got to be my favorite character next to Nick in "The Chronicles of Nick" its like Zarek acts like the people in my family XD lol, strange or not but I think his awesome.
The narrator fits in perfectly with Zarek a stand alone immortal who is constantly misunderstood. By far my favorite character of any story I have heard, full of the eff u attitude I do so enjoy. To be fair if you know nothing of this series you should know he is not evil but definately not afraid to stand up for himself.
Why do I like it? Well I'm glad you asked, to start I can remotely relate to Zarek. My life has not been all pain and suffering but I know what it's like to be treated poorly by family members who are supposed to be closest to you. I admire his I don't need anyone or anything attitude as I feel that way a lot. What I like most about him is how crude he is but yet is gentle and caring.
The Dark Hunter books are well known for having a lot of fiery sex scenes, but this book is not all lovey dovey droolin over the hot immortal greek god. It's still there but toned down A LOT in this book 5 stars all around an excellent audiobook.
Still waiting for my Astrid...
The main characters turmoil... you hurt for him and can't wait for the moment for him to give in and feel peace that he deserves...
The entire book was worthy of memory...
Fred is a great narrator ...he does Zarek very well...as always...
I love the story of the lost man...that needs to find that special one that can complete his life...so this story definitely fits ...
Absolutely a great read/listen. Loved the story line and the characters.
I liked his performance. If I have listened to Fred Berman, I don't recall.
I liked the intrigue and action. Couldn't stop listening.
Zarek, you just feel so sorry for him. From the very beginning, even when he is in his 'bad-ass' mode; you know that there is a very sad story behind his anger.
Can a Dark-Hunter truely be judged as innocent, or is it too late for Zarek.
As always, I love the interplay between Asheron and Artemis. Sometimes, I don't know which to feel sorry for.
Hello, my name is Teresa and I'm an addict.
This story happens to be my favorite out of the whole series. I have read all of them and Zarek connects with me more than any other. If you like romance, fantasy, and good vs. evil this is a must listen to series.
