Publisher's summary

Redemption isn't a word Jim Heron knows much about - his specialty is revenge, and to him, sin is all relative. But everything changes when he becomes a fallen angel and is charged with saving the souls of seven people from the seven deadly sins.

Vin diPietro long ago sold his soul to his business, and he's good with that - until fate intervenes in the form of a tough-talking Harley-riding, self-professed savior. But then he meets a woman who will make him question his destiny, his sanity, and his heart - and he has to work with a fallen angel to win her over and redeem his own soul.

Loved it for the second time...

A bevy of sexy, dangerous Fallen Angels in a race to save seven souls from a demon named Divina. A sharp, edgy dark tale of redemption through love. Hold on it's just the beginning though, things are definitely heating up. Man, Devina is cray cray! Great stuff!

If you're a Ward fan you know how these books are going to tie into her BDB series hence my timely re-read. Well worth a credit.

Very Original

I've read a lot of romance novels... A LOT... and I was pleasantly surprised by the originality of this book. The premise, good versus evil, is certainly not new, but Ward manages to spin a tail that is intriguing and edgy. The only criticism I have for the book is the fizzle of the relationship between Marie-Terese and Vin. They start out hot and heavy in the beginning, especially Vin's attraction to her, and by the end of the book they are very much in love but it seems watered down. I hear Crave is the same, and though I will definitely read/listen to Crave as the series is off to a great start, I hope Ms. Ward fixes this issue in her future books. I did not feel this way about her characters in the Black Dagger Brotherhood series.

As a side note, the narrator was male and actually delivered the story better than I think a female would have given the dark aspects of the book. However, sometimes I wondered if he was human or a computer narrator. A little more inflection and flow to the narration would make it just about perfect!

mostly great

Hard to get into at first. story drags at times but the thing that bothers me the most is the reader. Not like he is bad but not should be reading this type of book. It makes it harder is listen to when u have the wrong reader. the story is great though. Love j.r. ward.

A start that shows potential

As a huge fan of Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood, I thought I would give this new series a try. No, it's not quite at the level of the BDB, but its premise and characters show real potential.

By starting off in the Brothers' stomping ground of Caldwell we begin our voyage with unfamiliar people in a familiar setting and even get the small thrills of bumping into characters and places we already know, even if they are only the briefest of encounters. Some places, like the Commodore and the Iron Mask are more central to the story so we spend a little more time there.

The narrator does a great job of bringing the characters to life and providing the right tone for the text.

The three characters who it appears will form the core of this series have potential, although they didn't quite grab me the way characters in the BDB have. While I liked Marie Terese and was rooting for her, I have to admit a bit of a squirm factor when the "good girl" is a prostitute.

Overall, none of the characters are quite as fully developed as I would have liked, but it took me until the second book of the BDB to fully warm up to the Brothers and now I adore them--so there's potential here.

Promising New Series

A welcome visit back to Caldwell! This was an enjoyable listen due to a good story and fantastic narration. The set-up was a little slow, but once it got going, I found it difficult to find a good place to stop! Ward has created more strong male characters that obviously have more going on than can be revealed in one book. While that creates a desire to snatch up the next installment, the stories of Vin & Marie-Therese are wrapped up tidily!
