Publisher's summary

A hunky cowboy who’s sworn off women.

A Hollywood starlet searching for something real.

A road trip that tests their “just friends” deal from day one.

When professional bull rider Chase McKay lands in a compromising situation and is booted off the Pro tour until he can mend his reputation—and improve his riding, he escapes, hiding out from this meddling family and making plans to restore his image. Plans that definitely don’t include a woman.

Actress Ava Cooper is the tabloids’ favorite target after her celebrity boyfriend publicly humiliates her. She needs a place to lie low and reexamine all aspects of her life. When her former attorney offers her a rent-free cabin in nowhere Wyoming, Ava eagerly ditches LA in search of solitude.

So why in the heck is there a brawny cowboy sleeping in her bed?

At first, Chase is skeptical of the blonde bombshell invading his space, especially since she’s exactly the type of woman he’s trying to avoid. Once the mix-up is explained, it’s clear one of them will have to leave the small hideaway.

When Chase mentions he’s hitting the circuit to get back to basics, Ava convinces him she’s the perfect travel partner. But days spent in forced proximity only increases their mutual lust and they find it harder to keep their hands to themselves. After one wild night, clothes and promises are tossed aside.

While the mind-blowing passion isn’t surprising, the trust and deepening relationship is unexpected.

After the press gets wind of the affair, can this unlikely pair prove to the world, and each other, it wasn't a meaningless summer fling?

Steamy Sweet Romance

This book was fantastic! Great story line that was easy to follow, always kept you guessing, and even threw you for a loop now and again. Plus it included lots of steamy hot scenes. I'd definitely recommend this book. But Audible where are the other books in the Rough Rider series. Lorelei James is fabulous and I plan to listen lots more of her books.
I thought the narrator did a good job with the delivery of the story.

A SOLID STORY, BUT, WHAT'S UP WITH THE NARRATOR?

Changing narrators 10 books into a series is jarring to say the least. Initially I thought I might skip this one entirely, but, a chapter or two in, LJ's great writing and the hot and heavy romance won out! Chasin' eight was funny and sassy, definitely another winner in the Rough Riders series.

Rodeo Bad Boy Meets Scandalized Hollywood Actress

What did you like best about Chasin' Eight? What did you like least?

I like that we got to experience life in both Chase and Ava's world -- from the rodeo circuit to the fancy life in New York City. What I liked least was that there was not as much other Mckay story lines as in other books in the series.

Would you be willing to try another book from Lorelei James? Why or why not?

Yes, I have read many Lorelei James books and I am sure I will read more. I have read most of the books in this series multiple times and some of the other series as well.

What three words best describe Vanessa Caine’s performance?

Nothing memorable heard

What would have made this romance irresistible?

I think if Chase and Ava's relationship was a little more volatile it would have made for a more exciting read.

Holy Smokes! AWESOME

Would you consider the audio edition of Chasin' Eight to be better than the print version?

I listen to audio because I don't have the time to read with my schedule.

What did you like best about this story?

This is my first introduction to Larelei James, because of my limited time to read. I love the mixture of erotica and the in deepness of emotion instilled into the plot. It just completely worked for me. I can't wait to hear more from the series. Whatever needs to be done to persuade the publishers to do more... just let me know.

What about Vanessa Caine’s performance did you like?

Her emphasis on the characters was amazing to me. Her raspy voice just pulled me in. I couldn't put the audio down. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and have listened to it for a 2nd time.

Didn't Finish

Would you try another book from Lorelei James and/or Vanessa Caine?

yes,I love Lorelei's books, I love Scarlet as the narrator on the earlier audio books, I just couldn't get in to Vanessa Caine voice. She makes the male voice sound to immature, and I just think a rough rider should sound a little rough.

Ava and rodeo bull rider Chase

Ava is an actress on hiatus following some bad publicity. Chase has been restricted from riding bulls as he is injured and has had bad publicity also. Ava is visiting her friend Ginger when she meets Chase. The two hook up so Chase can travel to Cash Big Crow's to ride bulls and regain his riding form. Chase illegally enters some rodeos under an alias to get back into practice.

Whiny Little Chase

Chase, the youngest and shortest McKay brother, wasn't that interesting to me. He's a rodeo star who gets as much attention for his sexual escapades as his athletic ability. Since he's over 21, I expected a more mature and engaging hero - maybe someone who appreciated having a loving family and financial security. I did like his non-violent and respectful attitude toward women

Chase meets Ava, an actress (from a rich & caring family) who was just embarrassed by having her boyfriend publicly announced he was gay. Ava also seems a little immature and whiny - she had artistic talent, good health, and the freedom to pursue interests but choose to dwell on minor problems.

To me, the best parts of Chasin' Eight were the details about cowboys & rodeos, the down-to-earth people involved in the sport, and glimpses of small town life. Might have liked this book more when I was in my late teens or twenties.
