Changing the Game: Play-by-Play Series, Book 2

Win at any cost. That's always been the mantra of sports agent Liz Darnell. When she carries things too far and risks losing her number-one client, baseball pro Gavin Riley, Liz realizes that she'll have to work extra innings to win him back. It might not be too much of a stretch. She's had a thing for this player's moves since she first laid eyes on him, and by the looks of it, he wants her just as bad. Gavin's more than ready - especially when Liz is offering herself as part of the bargain. And as much of her as Gavin wants.

"IT WAS PURELY PHYSICAL BUT THEN IT BECAME PERSONAL"

First of all I give 5 stars to whoever is responsible for the cover picture - get a load of that...... oh and those...... not to mention the...... (right girls).

Anyway enough drooling back to the contents, I'm afraid at the start I was a bit disappointed in the first half of this book for the following reasons 1) there seemed to be a lot of 'motion' and not enough emotion or storyline..... a little conversation then sex, play Xbox then hot sex, coffee then sex, oh look at that view then.... yup you got it sex - well you get the picture. Don't get me wrong I like these types of books but there just wasn't a strong enough story to go with the repetitive sex for a lot of the book. 2) I had a little trouble at the start liking or connecting with either Liz or Gavin much as, from book 1, each of them seemed selfish and 3) there was plenty of dissing Mick from book 1 and not enough explaining or recapping just why he didn't like Liz or giving what his understandable reason was.

Having said that, as the story progressed we see more of Liz and Gavin's character traits being peeled away and their vulnerabilities and histories were revealed and the final half just sucked me right in - there was drama, conflict, arguments, heartache, passion and it was sweet, romantic and had a couple of lovely ahhhhh moments - and yes followed by sex of course.

Worth a credit? Well of course I'm going to say YES after all who can resist a steamy escape into these passion filled listens.

"Better than book one by a mile!"

I loved book one, and this one was way better than book one by a mile! I loved every min of this from chapter one until the very end. I even like how Mick kept popping up giving Gavin and Liz all kind of problems in their relationship from book one. And the smex.. MAN O MAN... If you thought the smex from book one was HOT.. this was Holy Teloly!!! Is that a word! This was right out of the gate SMOT-T-HOT! And that is HOT! LOved it...

    Narration was just awesome.

This is a buy. Save your credit for something over 10 bucks...b/c this is on sale... so buy this.. Wait.. if sale is over.. credit this for sure!

"MoreGreat Book In Series-Get Rid of Nasal Narrator"
What did you love best about Changing the Game?

The continuation from The Perfect Play.... A falling out between Mick and Liz (his agent) sets up a tangled situation for Gavin (Mick's brother) when he makes a deal with Liz. The constant search for where each charter 'belongs' is riveting and enjoyable.

    The intimate scenes are hot!

What other book might you compare Changing the Game to and why?

The Play-By-Play Series is great and I recommend reading them in order.

What didn’t you like about Lucy Malone’s performance?

Her male characters are o.k. but her female characters and narration are nasally-a bit annoying.

    Any additional comments?

    Adult content and strong language.

I've always been a avid reader so now I'm a avid listener. I prefer the paranormal genre but I do like to switch things up. It's boring if you don't have variety. Of course I do love the romance and the hotter the better. Also, you can't beat a good thriller filled with suspense and a ending you can't even guess at until the very end.

I loved the first book and I loved this one. I like the plot and I love the sexual chemistry between the characters. It was a one that I wanted to listen to in one sitting. Personally I'm not into baseball but I'm so into the Jaci Burton and Lucy Malone combination. In my opinion it was totally worth my credit. I intend to continue with book 3.

"Pretty good addition to the series"

    4 stars

This was a pretty good story. TBH I had my doubts about this story because Elizabeth (the heroine in this story) was a major b*tch in the last story and I wasn't sure if I even wanted to give it a chance. I am glad I did because I enjoyed the story and surprisingly enough I ended up liking her in the end.

Elizabeth (Liz) is a sports agent. She concentrates on business and never gets heavily involved with men. Partially this is due to a horribly controlling father that made her life hell when she was growing up. The other reason is because she's been in love with one of her clients, Gavin, for years. Since Gavin has never shown an interest in her, she figured she'd never have him. She figured she'd concentrate on business and not worry about men since she could never have what she wants.

Liz made some major mistakes when dealing with Gavin's brother, Mick, in the previous book The Perfect Play. She decided that Mick's girlfriend wasn't good for him and tried splitting them up. She didn't succeed and ends up getting fired by Mick. Because of this situation, she figures she's going to lose Gavin as a client as well. She's waiting for him to lower the boom when he comes on to her sexually instead. She figures it's a one time thing before he gives her the boot and goes along with it. She's surprised when he tells her he wants her to stay with him for a while so they can continue to "have fun". Liz knows this is bound to cause her more heartache in the end but can't help taking what she can get.

Gavin is a good guy but he is a playboy and hasn't had any serious relationships. He's never seen Liz sexually (or maybe just hasn't allowed himself to before this) but for some reason he suddenly realizes he wants her. He takes her to bed and then decides he wants more. He tried to get Liz to stay with him for a while (during spring training) but since they never talk about where things are between them or what either of them is expecting she eventually leaves, due to fear and thinking he's lost interest.

When spring training is over and Gavin gets back to St. Louis he talks to Liz and they end up seeing each other some more. At this point Gavin has been willing to allow that he wants to try a real relationship with Liz. Liz doesn't think it'll last but once again is willing to take what she can get. Things are made more difficult by Mick. He hasn't forgiven Liz for what she did to them and is determined to make sure Gavin doesn't trust her. I can understand Mick's issues but after a while I do think he pushes it too far. Unfortunately Mick's attitude doesn't help when a conflict arises between Gavin and Liz. The drama is too much to spell out here but lets just say that Gavin suffers from a HUGE bout of relationship stupidity and messes up things bad. Like most idiotic heroes, he realizes just how wrong he was after he's already torn the heart out of the heroine and then he has to struggle to get her forgiveness.

I really liked the ending...Mick ended up coming around and forgiving Liz for their past issue and apologizing for his contributions to her and Gavin's issues. Gavin (after a few false starts) manages to get Liz to forgive him and I was happy they managed to work things out. I'm glad I ended up buying this book and am going on to the next in the series. This is a very good series. :D

I really like baseball, maybe my expectations were just too high.

We met Gavin and Liz in book one and I liked to listen to their relationship unfold, but it seemed like this book could have been shorter with all the inner monologue of "this is just a fling...it's not serious....I can't fall for him..." Some of it was good, too much made me want to skip ahead and I never do that.

I still downloaded book 3 and am hoping for more in the next one.
