The end of her journey is only the beginning....

The Barrani would be happy to see her die. So Kaylin Neya is a bit surprised by her safe arrival in the West March. Especially when enemies new and old surround her and those she would call friends are equally dangerous....

And then the real trouble starts. Kaylin's assignment is to be a "harmoniste" - one who helps tell the truth behind a Barrani Recitation. But in a land where words are more effective than weapons, Kaylin's duties are deadly. With the wrong phrase she could tear a people further asunder. And with the right ones...well, then she might be able to heal a blight on a race.

If only she understood the story....

    "Great performance but slow story"
What did you love best about Cast in Sorrow?

Hvam is always gives a great performance.

If you’ve listened to books by Michelle Sagara before, how does this one compare?

This story is slow and focuses on just one event. Many of the previous stories had multiple situations and varied characters.

Which character – as performed by Khristine Hvam – was your favorite?

    All.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

    Please do not.

    Any additional comments?

I am afraid that Michelle has run out of avenues for the story and is just casting about. She has a beautiful writing style but unfortunately nothing to say.

    "What happened Michelle Sagara?"

I loved the first 7 books in this series but started to get a bad feeling as I struggled toward the end of book 8, Cast in Peril. Now, I'm beginning to think something is wrong in Michelle Sagara ' s personal life because book 9, Cast in Sorrow is like wading through mud. It's so bad I don't believe I'll be able to finish the book, let alone the series. What a letdown.

"Not as good as the previous books in this series.."

i don't know where it went wrong, but this book just didn't have the same effect on me as the others. usually i can't wait for the next one, but if it isn't any better than this one, then don't bother.

it isn't that the writing was bad, or the narration...i can't put my finger on it, but the vibe was wrong. the flow and excitement was just lacking in this one.

still and all, it's a good listen, Khristine Hvam is one of my favorites. i just wish it had the same 'something' as the other books in this series.

    "Not the best"

This was definitely not the best of the series. I fail to see any real growth for Kaylin and am very disappointed in her constant contact and association with Nightshade. He is everything she despises yet she is somewhat attracted to him. Her desire to leave Nightshade and her childhood behind has become more and more wishy washy. Personally, I would like to see Nightshade replaced. Severn is a much more pivotal character and would like to see more character development. Have loved the series and will get the next book. Hopefully, it will track better. D

"reading junkie" I read or listen to almost anything except for non-fiction or history, unless I find it interesting.

    "Full of good info"

I have listened to all this series and find it very interesting. If you have never listened to any of these books it is a good idea to listen to Cast in Peril first. I like the lengths of the stories (although it wouldn't hurt my feelings if they were longer). The characters are colorful. Ms. Sagara has created a wonderful world. The narrator does an excellent job. This book picks up where the last one stops with alittle less action. The focus is saving Teala and the Green in the West March. There is a bunch of information about Barrani in this story including the "lost children", Teala and Nightshade. I only have one complaint I wish Kailyn would learn to make peace with her past more but I understand that she is young and seems to be trying to.

"A series that's gone on too long"

Sadly, this was one of the worst books I've read this year. I very much enjoyed the first few books in the Cast In series, finding the development of Kaylin's character and the fleshing out of the other Hawks and secondary characters well done and overall making for enjoyable reads. But the last couple of books have been less enjoyable and this one was finally one too far. Every time Kaylin gets in trouble, she suddenly has yet another new power to overcome the problem, and I'm just tired of it. Plus this isn't about the city or the characters in it, but a bunch of weirdness and totally unappealing silliness. Sometimes, authors and publishers just need to let go of a series and start with a new one.

    "Kaylin heals the Green"
What made the experience of listening to Cast in Sorrow the most enjoyable?

I enjoyed the servants assigned to help Kaylin. I enjoyed meeting the Lord of the Green again. I enjoyed the "little Dragon's" adventures.

What was one of the most memorable moments of Cast in Sorrow?

When she lead the Lord of the Green to the rot in the Heart of the Green

What does Khristine Hvam bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

Her slue of voices. her drama and narration.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

    did and did

    Any additional comments?

    Just buy them all.

    "Awesome Story"
If you could sum up Cast in Sorrow in three words, what would they be?

    Wonderfully fantastic characters

What did you like best about this story?

    The characters

Have you listened to any of Khristine Hvam’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I've listened to all of the Elantra series and I couldn't imagine anyone else reading these. The life she brings to the characters is absolutely awesome. They come alive and inhabit your mind taking you places you've only vaguely imagined. I've listened to several other stories read by Khristine Hvam and she always brings so much life to the character that pull you even deeper into the story.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

These characters, old friends now after reading the entire series, always bring laughter and tears both. That's one of the best things about this series and these characters. They pull you into their lives and you feel their joy, their sorrow and their loves.

    Any additional comments?

I would recommend this series to anyone who likes fantasy, likes strong characters and detailed plots. I've hooked my wife into this series and I'm working on my daughter and granddaughter as well.

    "Love, love, love this series!!!!"

This book continued the story from Cast in Peril. It had some surprising turns, and interesting developments. I waited a year for the continuation from Peril, and it was well worth each day's wait. Great story. Cannot wait for the next one!
