Publisher's summary

It has been a busy few weeks for Private Kaylin Neva. In between angling for a promotion, sharing her room with the last living female Dragon, and dealing with more refugees than anyone knew what to do with, the unusual egg she'd been given began to hatch. Actually, that turned out to be lucky, because it absorbed the energy from the bomb that went off in her quarters.

So now might be the perfect time to leave Elantra and journey to the West March with the Barrani. If not for the disappearances of citizens in the fief of Tiamaris - disappearances traced to the very Barrani Kaylin is about to be traveling with....

An Excellent Performance

I find that the books written by Michelle Sagara, are always complex and well written.
this book was not the exception, starting out with a surprise from the egg as it hatched in a magical conflagration. the assassination attempt which laid waste to kaylin's life, and the beginning of her trip to the West March with the Barrani high court. the character Kaylin found many complication centering around her journey to the West March unexpected enemies and allies. and the many fall-outs dealing with the Argonaut Barrani race entails. there were unexpected battles, where the very fabric of dimensional reality is threaten, newer and stronger shadows hunted the forest around the caravan, dogging the steps of kaylin and the lady of life; also we the readers were given a greater understanding of the role of the chosen and her awesome responsibility

Wonderful narrator, she brought the story to life

Loved it

Would you listen to Cast in Peril again? Why?

I would revisit the series in a couple of years after my memory fades. But for now I am satisfied with what I've heard

Who was your favorite character and why?

Kaylin, of course. As she matures, I hope she doesn't lose her sense of self

What does Khristine Hvam bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She is an awesome narrator. She flows smoothly from one character to another. But Sevrin is supposed to be a tough guy. I'd like his voice to be deeper.

Any additional comments?

I'm looking forward to the next (and future) installments.

Has anyone seen the ending to this book.!

What did you like best about Cast in Peril? What did you like least?

The worst thing about cast in Peril was where are the characters we all know and love. who want's to hear about stick up their a**barrani. Who thinks all himans or mortals or slightly above animals in the heirarchy. I thing the'yr about to get a big suprise. And Yea! Kaylin finally lit the dang candle and there wasn't a party! WTf! I really like the little dragom Familiar though.

If you’ve listened to books by Michelle Sagara before, how does this one compare?

Seven out of seven this is my least favorite book in the series

Have you listened to any of Khristine Hvam’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

yes she's great in the cast in series books.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

absolutely if it started from the beginning of the series

A bit of a let down! :(

I am sad to say that it was Disappointing! I caught myself often drifting throughout the story and at the end of the book I felt it was just cut off, as if you had stopped at the end of a chapter in the middle of the book. I felt cheated! Even though I had known that the Author had split the book if felt just like that and I don't think it should have - I felt like she could have closed the book at least by a point where something was accomplished with relation to the journey. Maybe I am spoiled in the sense that all of the other cast books had a story that started and ended; and although the development of some characters in relation to the protagonist was present I felt like the protagonist herself didn't. She is still struggling with the same issues that was presented in the very 1st book. She has not evolved much and for this having been the 8th book I expected a little more. I was happy to learn more about Tela and what's behind the facade of such a strong character, a bit more of Nightshade was implied and I think it also gave a bit of understanding about his character.
I have to say I really like Michelle Sagara's style of writing (even though the over usage of "shrug" and "brown raising" started to get on my nerves a bit - might be a signature move within her writing but it's still annoying), the dialog is creative and the vocabulary very rich. However, Cast in Peril left a lot to be desired. Maybe it would not have been so bad if we could have gotten the entire story in one book instead of two.
I am debating whether to get Cast in Sorrow, which makes me bitter because I have been following this series and anticipating each book..

This book was too wordy

Get it? Wordy...because of the...never mind. It wasn’t that the book was stagnant. On the contrary, there was a lot of action. There were, however, long, frequent passages, some in the middle of action passages, where the main character spends an irritatingly lengthy time asking everyone to explain everything to her.
