Publisher's summary

From the author who brought us the unforgettable Waverly Bryson and the best-selling Perfect on Paper series. Best-selling author Cassidy Lane walks into her 20th high school reunion with several novels under her belt, but no date on her arm, and deep down she still feels like the smart girl no one asked to the prom. Then handsome Brandon Forrester confesses his teenage crush, and soon Cassidy finds herself swept up in a modern-day fairytale romance not unlike the tales she spins for a living. While their relationship blossoms, however, the new book she’s writing isn't going as well, and for the first time in her career she considers crafting an ending that doesn't end with a proverbial walk into the sunset. Contemplating the simultaneous reversal of her own romantic fortune and that of her protagonist’s is daunting, but maybe it’s time for both her writing and her personal life to take a new path. Or is it? Filled with Murnane’s trademark wit and optimism, a charming cast of secondary characters, and loads of heart, Cassidy Lane will have you cheering for its heroine down to the very last delightful word.

A sweet story

I enjoyed the premise of this book and it actually kept me guessing as to how it was going to turn out.
After reluctantly attending her high school reunion, Cassidy Lane crosses paths with a guy from her past, setting her life on an unexpected path. Throughout the book we watch as friends and random encounters shape the way Cassidy views her own life and how she turns it all into a best selling novel.

A fun read.

What did you love best about Cassidy Lane?

This was a fun book to listen to. The main character was flawed and so were her friends.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No. I like to listen to books going to and from work each day.

Any additional comments?

I have either read or listened to a number of books by this author and enjoyed this book.

eehh!

I have listened to this author's other books and could not turn them off. that was not the case with this book. I was totally disappointed with then entire book. I won't ruin it, but after this, it makes me rethink listening or reading other works by this author. if given a choice, pick a different book.

Could have been so much better

Any additional comments?

This was by far my least favorite book by Maria. I couldn't connect with the main character, Cassidy, and wanted to shake some sense into her little noggin.
I felt that Cassidy needed some more back bone when dealing with her love interest and that was the most frustrating part. I also got annoyed with the fact that her friends kept giving her false hope about the guy when it was obvious that he was a self-centered jerk. The plot was okay, not the best but it was workable. It's not that I want all books to end in "...and they lived happily ever after." However if that's where Maria wanted to take it, I feel like she could have done a better job with the story. In many respects I feel like Cassidy didn't really grow in the book and ended up right where we first meet her.

Ugh! No ending!

Is this a multi-part story? Yes but No!
Does it end in a cliffhanger? Yes but no 2nd book
Genre(s) : Romance Drama Angst
Instalove? Sort of
Was cheating involved? No
Any major triggers to be aware of? No

2.25 Stars for me!
My rating range of this story... 2-4 Stars
If significant, why? The h and her friends, the H
Biggest deduction? 1.5 Stars

Scenes with heat... None

The back story... The H goes to her 20th class reunion and is immediately attracted to an old school mate. They start talking/texting even though they live on opposite coasts.

Romance or Gist: The lack of chemistry plus communication on anything but a surface level killed the story for me as much as the extreme angst. The H seemingly had little to no interest throughout the entire story and the h appeared desperate for a relationship.

The drama explosion... None really
Did it feel Real, OK or contrived? n/a
Was it OTT? n/a
Separation involved? Throughout the entire story
Was it resolved properly or rushed? To be continued yet it doesn't have a second book.

Final Notes... The MCs were polar opposites. The H had some interest but it was on a 1 out of 10 level and was mostly business when talking to the h. The h was desperate for the relationship and was willing to be the best doormat ever. Her friends gave the H the benefit of the doubt and even seemed to gaslight the h into believing that she was the problem.

The story ends with the H calling the h. No words, just the end.

HEA or HFN? To be continued but never was.

Needy co-dependent lead character - boring story

What would have made Cassidy Lane better?

If it didn't spend most of the time having Cassidy constantly needing her friends to tell her how awesome she was so she could feel less insecure that'd be a great start. But there really wasn't a time when Cassidy wasn't incredibly needy and annoying. I kept waiting for a real story to come - but it never did. There was no pay off of a good story or a good ending. I doubt I'll ever get another book from this author

What character would you cut from Cassidy Lane?

Perfectly narrated, space, but very boring

I usually don’t write reviews, but I felt the need to warn people not to buy this book. It is extremely boring. Nothing really happens. Of course it was perfectly read by Tonya Eby. She always does great work.
