Publisher's summary

His past has haunted him for a lifetime…but one woman could be his salvation

Gunslinger Caden Miller's compadres are becoming a bit too domesticated for his liking. So he's off to Kansas territory to carve out a living and a space of his own - alone, just the way he likes it.

Maddie O'Hare has been drawn to Caden ever since she escaped to the Hell's Eight compound from the brothel where she was born and raised. And she's not ready to let him go so easily…until she's captured by his new neighbors.

When Caden discovers that Maddie is being held by a rival at a nearby ranch, his plan to rescue her backfires, and he finds himself the groom in what's literally a shotgun wedding. As shocked as Caden is by the bizarre turn of events, Maddie's grateful kiss holds a fiery promise that's far more unexpected. But with old enemies catching up with him, Caden and Maddie will face a danger that tests their passion - and will either bind them together forever or break them apart for good.

Please please find a decent narrator!

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

No. So disappointed in the choice of narrators, AGAIN! These are good stories, have listened to all and one point is very apparent to me.......why would a fake Texas accent on a squeaky, whiney young woman's voice work for a story about a ruff, tuff, Texas Ranger????. Only one book was narrated by a man? Much appreciated. Too late now, but hopefully Ms McCarty will hold firm for a change with her next novel.

What was most disappointing about Sarah McCarty’s story?

The story was weak, dialogue even weaker but narrating made it all irritating!

What didn’t you like about Paula Hoffman’s performance?

She has NO understanding of the Texan accent. She reAds through her nose and whines instead of delivering! I am done with her work.

Could you see Caden's Vow being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?

NEVER.....story not stemg enough.

A few tweaks needed for a 5-star rating

I liked Maddie. The narrator’s portrayal of her was exactly as I imagined she would sound like. Even though with this genre I know its going to end well, I found myself rooting for her. I enjoyed watching the confidence in herself grow.
Caden and Ace could have been narrated better. Particularly Ace. He sounded goofy and not at all like a tough Texas Ranger.
Other than this being the 3rd shotgun wedding ( a bit too redundant for me) within the same series, the story was interesting. We are left hanging as to whether Caden got to any gold though. Maybe that will be addressed in the next book.
Again with the ass spankings... really?! I doubt anyone being mistreated the way Maddie was growing up would enjoy anything that sparked pain. It wasn’t a necessary part of the love making and I found myself disgusted with the author on this one.

Not the quality of the prior books
Weak plot, weak writing, drawn out and only fair narrator.
Hate to see it go down.

Keep Them Coming I Love This Series

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Yes, it was an interesting storyline with memorable characters.

What does Paula Hoffman bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I like most narrators, this one is no exception-good job.

Was Caden's Vow worth the listening time?

It sure was. I've listened a few times.

Any additional comments?

Some reviewers are disappointed, I'm not sure why. It seems to be similar to the rest of the series.

I'm not a 'historical' romance fan however this series is an exception! Good plots, hot romance-language & scenes for adult readers.

Not as good as the others 😞

I was really looking forward to Molly's story and also to learn a little about Caden but this book was just lacking something. I wasn't crazy about the male voices but Molly was good. It was worth listening to and was a great ending but It just wasn't the best .

Don’t pay attention to the negative reviews

I think this story was great. I could hardly wait to know what happened next. Yes there were a few things in the story line I didn’t like but I could say the same about the previous books in the series. Overall, I think this story was great.

Great Story. Bad Narration

I continued to listen to the story because I love the Hell’s Eight series but the narrator on this one was awful! She made every character sound like a little kid not like the men and women they are. Caden and Ace sounded like Porky and Alfalfa from Our Gang.

dry as dust.

I had to struggle to get through this book, and initially, I thought it was because I lacked an interest in the heroine but nope- it's just not up to the same quality as Sarah's other books. This was not helped by Paula Hoffman. She needs to practise, perhaps take some acting classes-SOMETHING! There is a difference between reading a story and making the listener feel like they are in the story. She physically can't sound like a man( she tried and it was an epic fail) nor is she able to create that place where you know you are listening to a woman speaking as a man but it works anyway. Given how these stories are about strong, sexy men that have had a ton of life experience, there was a lot of short-changing going on. Even her attempt at accents was ridiculous making them sound like they came from 'Nowhere Specific, USA' rather than Texas or even the South. I will purchase the next book in this series if Paula isn't reading it, as I am confident that Sarah will come through with a better book than this one- she had five that were awesome, and every author drops the ball sometimes but I will never again buy a book that Paula Hoffman reads.

Extremely disappointed

I've been listening to the Hell's Eight series for the past couple of weeks, and have really enjoyed the way author Sarah McCarty continued the beginning story line throughout the subsequent books. She always gave great character development, and there was plenty of action with her scenarios being believable. Unfortunately, it seems she let all that go down the proverbial drain with this one.

Caden's Vow was one of the most boring books I've listened to in quite a while. Most of the dialogue between the main characters was something I would expect to read from a high school literature student.

The Narrator voice was extremely boring (I did fall asleep a couple of times trying to make it through to the end). As another reviewer mentioned, she made the characters sound like hillbillies, and that is a very appropriate labelling. Her voice was sing-song, rather nasal, void of any real emotion. I would recommend she limit herself to children's books, not adult themed material.

This is the sixth book in the series of eight, and as of this writing I am very hesitant to purchase the seventh here on Audible or the eighth which is in print only.
