Amelia grew up in a world of half-truths. She knows she's an Elder, but has no idea what that means. Her father reminds her daily that she must maintain control, but he refuses to explain why. Even worse, she's betrothed to the prince of the Immortals and doesn't even know his name.
Finally breaking free to live a few normal years at a community college, the last thing Amelia expects is to find her best friend in a cheeky southern girl, or fall for a self-assured human who sees her for who she is, not what she will become.
As she learns more about herself, Amelia realizes the line between love and duty is a thin one. As her power continues to increase exponentially and her questions are slowly answered, Amelia must make the ultimate choice. The question is, will her head win the battle, or her heart?

When I first listened I thought "uh oh, another dud" but thankfully I have a personal deal to give every book 1 chapter or 10 pages, whichever is longer. This book then hooked me and had some fun twists. Ending is harsh!! Gotta get second in series :)
It made me confused. I just find it hard to believe that a young adult would make every bad choice they could that often. Its like sticking your hand in the fire and then wonder why you got burnt.
The book started out fine the turned into a book with no common sense. Or maybe I am wrong, but the main protagonist just spends the hole book making all of the wrong decisions.
I just don't think a 18 year old would be acting like a 8 year old. Not to mention the book is highly predictable. I new what was going to happen way before it happened. The book played like a bad horror movie.
Mama Reads Hazel Sleeps owner/blogger, lover of the written and narrated word, if you write it they will review.
I can't help but love a good, sarcastic, fun heroine and story full of Magic and secrets, and you'll love it too. The narrator does a great job distinguishing between all the characters and you'll be seeing yourself with laughter, that is when you aren't holding your breath or crying.
Amount my top favs
I live the romantic story but also the plot
My favourite character performed was B
Absolutely couldn't get enough.
Fantasy & UF reader/blogger/writer. Content Editor. Photographer. I prefer to live in my own version of the world,no matter how weird it is.
Between Kristin's acting and the story, I was drawn into the story and wanted the words to go by faster. I would have wanted the same as reading, and I know listening is much faster than my reading. I couldn't wait to get more and more. I will be looking for the next book!
Amelia tries her hardest to do what she must. She works to stay the path that is set for her. But she's got a human heart. She struggles with things that many young adults struggle with, though in a different way, when they are eighteen and out in the world.
I like that we get the prophecy up front at the beginning of the story. There is no guessing as to what it is or why.
The story builds as the pages turn, giving us details of the world and what it is Amelia must know and do, or choose from.
I'm going to say Amelia as she's the main character. She fits right in to Amelia's part and all the emotions the poor girl feels. Amelia's attitude when she's angered, even if unintentional, comes out in Kristin's voice. Kristin even has a different sound for Amelia when she's thinking in her head, a slight echo-y sound of an empty room.
Yet, all the characters become beyond four-dimensional with Kristin as the voice (three dimensional for the character development, fourth for the voice we hear). I like it as I know when Amelia is talking or thinking with easy differentiating. Kristin also gives each character a different tone or accent, making listening so easy.
I chuckled at Bethany and her responses and personality. She was a breath of fresh air. But I loved the interactions with Amelia and Aidan. Aidan is patient with Amelia, not pushing her beyond her pace in the relationship. They are so sweet together.
Amelia is divided between what to do. Do what she wants, love who she wants? Or do as she's told to do, follow as she's to do as betrothed to the Prince and let them lead her on? Or...is she strong enough to stand up to the cruel Queen Julia? And help her people come out of the isolation age they've been living in.
The world of the mages has been torn apart, and the young don't know exactly what was done to their kind. The older are keeping the secrets quiet. What Amelia learns of a Mage that was all but destroyed is heartbreaking to learn what happened to the Elders and Mages by Queen Julia. It's interesting the Mages present in the world and their powers, but how they are all isolated as well.
I am an avid reader and just starting my love affair with audiobooks!
