Publisher's summary

From the #1 New York Times bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon comes Born of Night, the first book in her blockbuster series, The League.

In the Ichidian Universe, The League and their ruthless assassins rule all. Expertly trained and highly valued, the League Assassins are the backbone of the government. But not even the League is immune to corruption . . .

Command Assassin Nykyrian Quikiades once turned his back on the League—and has been hunted by them ever since. Though many have tried, none can kill him or stop him from completing his current mission: to protect Kiara Zamir, a woman whose father's political alliance has made her a target.

As her world becomes even deadlier, Kiara must entrust her life to the same kind of beast who once killed her mother and left her for dead. Old enemies and new threaten them both and the only way they can survive is to overcome their suspicions and learn to trust in the very ones who threaten them the most: each other.

Pleasantly surprised!

I love the Dark Hunter series and was sad when I finished them. I went back and re-listened to my very favorites but then I was ready for something new (to me). I started with this book. At first I was like, eh, I’m not sure about this. But then, bam! It kicked in for me just like the first Dark Hunter book I read, and I loved it. Looking forward to the rest of the series.

Narration is wanting.

I love this book. However I wish there was another narrator for this. All of the other audible books of this series I have say the characters names the same and have a relaxing voice. Including flexing their voices for each character. This ladies is not soothing nor is she able to say the names correctly. And the voice flex isn't that well. The male voices are gruff and accents kept changing. I think she would be better on a female lead book instead of a male. As this is Nykyrian Quiakides (deadliest assassin) a female voice just does not give his character justice.

Great start to an Amazing Series

Would you listen to Born of Night again? Why?
Yes i would. I love Nykyrian's story, and Kiara is such a sweetie!

What was one of the most memorable moments of Born of Night?
I loved when Kiara went shopping with Nykyrian. It would be like a dream come true for most women. I also really loved when kiara was donating clothes and the donation people were snotty and rude about Nykyrian and Kiara let them have it!

What does Kelly Fish bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?
I am not a fan of kelly fish narrating this story. It took me about half of the book to be able to just hear what she was reading and not really pay attention to her voice.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
I cried when Nyk dropped Kiara off at home. The book made me laugh quite a few times, especially with the guys protecting her at her home, they are hilarious when they are all together.

Needs a new Narrator.

I've loved the book ever since I happened to pick it up in a used book store, so I was really excited to be able to listen to it. However... I really don't like the person picked to narrate this one. Females usually cannot read male voices. This book is an example of that. I love the other Narrated books in the series which are read by male narrators. The female voices in them are low, yes, but they are much preferred to the woman trying to speak the male voices in this book. I listened to it all the way through. But trying to listen to it again makes me cringe. Kinda wish they would redo it with a new narrator. I like the narrators voice, that's fine. I just don't think this is the right book for her.

About the girl....

I did enjoy the story, though I know when you buy one of these types of books the plot is generally predictable (I have no problem with that really), but, there are several moments when the female character becomes incredibly hard to listen to. She gets better, she redeems herself, but it can be tough getting through at some points. Great male lead.
