Sweet story, fine narration

Normally I don't write reviews because people often use reviews to rave or rant, but there were so many negative reviews for the narrator I thought I'd chime in.

He's fine. I've certainly heard better, but Fiacre Douglas does a good job. I can imagine a female narrator maybe working better in some ways, but I was expecting (based on the reviews) something rigid and nigh unbearable. Not at all the case.

The story itself is not necessarily to my taste but I completely enjoyed it. It's pretty straight-forward without being utterly predictable. It's very sweet and the characters - while sometimes a tad idealised - are interesting and fairly believable.

I would recommend it to anyone who wants a solid, entertaining, fairly light, basically romance read.

Lovely book and wonderful reader

What made the experience of listening to Born in Fire the most enjoyable?

This is Nora Roberts at her finest - a fun riveting listen. I was enraptured in the story and loved the reader. Time flew by as I ran errands and listened in my car. Last night I had to hear the end and listened to it over dinner!

A little slow and predictable but fun summer read

The narrator was good, the story was the same story yoy would expect . The main characters are determined not to be involved and fight each other , but as always you can guess the ending.

Loved the story but...

Where does Born in Fire rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

If i ranked this book with the other audio books I've listened to (which is well over 100) this woud be in the bottom 25%

Who was your favorite character and why?

Obviously the main characters Rogan and Maggie, I also can't wait to read the next book in the series about Maggie's sister

What aspect of Fiacre Douglas’s performance would you have changed?

He did a great job with the inflections in the Irish accent which a non native speaker would have stuggled with but in general I found his narration to be flat. I think a female narrrator would have made it easier to connect to the characters and would have made the story come alive. Susan Erikson would have been a great choice for this series since she was amazing in the The Key Trilogy.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, I found the monotone voice of the narrator too distracting to listen to the book in one sitting. It took a lot of concentration to block it out and to focus on the story.

Any additional comments?

As usual anything story by Nora Roberts is wonderful and she is without a doubt one of my favorite authors. I purchased this book on sale and am very glad that I didn't pay full price or use a credit to buy the book. I'll finish the series but will more than likely read them on my own.

Enjoyable but...

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

Listening to this book really passed the time on an 19 hr. road trip.

How did the narrator detract from the book?

I was able to get past how fast the narrator read, but the audible breaths were very distracting.

Was Born in Fire worth the listening time?

Yes.
