Publisher's summary

I'm no coward. I want to make that perfectly clear. But after my life turned into a horror movie, I take fear a lot more seriously now. I finally became Dr. Carrie Ames just eight months ago. Then I was attacked in the hospital morgue by a vampire. Just my luck.

So now I'm a vampire, and it turns out I have a blood tie to the monster who sired me. The tie works like an invisible leash, and I'm bound to him no matter what I do. And of course he's one of the most evil vampires on earth. With my sire hell-bent on turning me into a soulless killer and his sworn enemy set to exterminate me, things couldn't get much worse...except I'm attracted to them both.

Drinking blood, living as an immortal demon, and being a pawn between two warring vampire factions isn't exactly how I'd imagined my future. But as my father used to say, the only way to conquer fear is to face it. So that's what I'll do. Fangs bared.

Don't miss the rest of the Blood Ties series, including Book Two, The Possession and Book Three, Ashes to Ashes, and Book Four, All Souls' Night.

Vampire Romance For the Horror Fan

This is not a book for the reader looking for a plain old romance. The characters pull you in despite being less than sympathetic. Conceit wars with empathy and love in this novel. It is about the ego each person has. Mistakes are made because of overconfidence. People die, people are hurt.

I found myself wanting to know when the next book would be available. This isn't quite up to earlier Charlaine Harris or Tanya Huff's early vampire novels, but it is well worth listening to and shows promise from a new author. I will be watching for her future books.

I am still relatively new to the "Chick Lit" and "Romance" markets - but must say that the literary quality is right up there with what is produced in other genres, including general fiction.

I have to agree that the narrator could have differentiated the voices more - some characters sounded alike when they should not have. I, however, think she did a more than adequate job of reading this audiobook.

story good, narrator awful

This book would have been very good, had it not been for the narrator. Just as others have said, she was fine as the main character, but terrible as the supporting characters.

Great read

I liked this series! I thought the narrator did a good job. She fixes a few of the voices in the later books. I really enjoyed the story. I wish there were more books in this series or that the author would make books from the point of view of some of the other characters. The books do have a lot of "romance," but I like the steamy bits! LOL I've recommended this series to a bunch of friends and they all loved it as well!

enjoyed

I am new to this type of genre, started with Harris by accident and have not stopped since, gone through Harrison, Harris and Hamilton, what is with the H's?? Davidson and have a L.A. Banks waiting, have enjoyed them all.
I enjoyed this book very much I felt the characters were believable with the exception of the biggest, baddest bad guy, I felt he should of had a bit more embellishment, if for no other reason then he was the biggest fear of all. His part was a bit anti-climatic for me. However, maybe he is meant to be the lead in for the second of this series, personally I want him resolved like all baddies deserve. I do have a issue with protagonists who are a little to hard headed and come off as just plain stubborn and foolish to the point of stupid and Carrie pushed that almost too far for me. Stubborn to the point of stupid is not a good positive quality and I found her irritating at times with her inability to listen or flat out childish because no one was going to tell her what to do. I think if I had just discovered my life so drastically altered I might take some friendly well intentioned advice to heart.
However, I did enjoy overall I give it a 4 star rating just because she did irritate me at times and I do hope we see Carrie and her Scottish hero again.

Ok, but predictable.

The story line was ok but I felt the dialog was repetitive and not particularly interesting.

There were really few surprises after listening to the first two books in this series.

I chose to not listen to any of the other series books, as I can't imagine that I would feel much different.

But I would say it is an OK read.

Quite ridiculous

Would you try another book from Jennifer Armintrout and/or Elenna Stauffer?

I wouldn't have bought this book had I known it was a Harlequin book. Ugh. If you want a vampire story, try Molly Harper, or any number of better authors. I listened to the end, but wanted to stop after the 1st chapter, skipped over half the book, it was just so poorly put together as a story. It had possibilities, but ..... Then again if you enjoy Harlequin, go for it, you'll love it.

What was most disappointing about Jennifer Armintrout’s story?

The plot, the characters, all under prepared and under cooked.

Which scene was your favorite?

the end

Do you think Blood Ties Book One needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?

Please, God, no.

Any additional comments?

I want my money back.
