When widowed Amelia Smith takes a fallen soldier into her household, she is shocked to discover he has no idea who he is. Determined to help him recover his memory, she embarks on a journey that will change and endanger them both.

Working out whom and what he is brings back painful memories to Marco. The only constant in his life is his burning desire to take revenge on those who tried to steal everything from him. But what about...

I feel like this book was written to just wrap up a story, that was kind of started in book 1, but really never wraps it all up. . Seriously a soap opera story has more depth then this entire series has.

Our Hero finds himself in England after 5 yrs of being somewhere, he doesn't remember. She is a lonely widow so they hook up. Great. But like all the other books in the series, we are introduced to characters but things are never wrapped up. Are Marcus and Jack redeemed for their supposed past traitorous activities? What about Marcus's brother? And his illegitimate brother? This book tells us Elizabeth, from book 1 has 3 brothers, what? wait? Where did #3 come from, it has always been two? so there are some inconsistenties with the story. Book 2 ends with Mrs Forrester and Jack's brother being turned over to the Duke, but this book doesn't wrap up that story.

The whole series is lazily written. Luckily, there are all free as part of the Plus Catalog, Otherwise i wouldn't waste my credits or money on purchasing them.

Julie Maisey was quite good.

The series gets better after the first book, thank goodness. The narrator kept me going, as a bad narrator is an instant no. The author did manage to do minimal research by the last book.

The whole series uses a cause célèbre for each male protagonist; be it PTSD in a soldier, handicapped soldier, rejected by society soldier…and “strong women”. The whole mystery is a better hook, as the spice is a bell pepper dipped in a cream based dip.

As I am particular, the description of what people are wearing using accurate terminology improves. It is a bit annoying when all of the men are wearing articles of clothing that were being phased out and completely gone by 1820…while these are the people who defined what was fashionable. Understandable for the military and footmen, but less so on the Dukes.

Historical fiction

This story was okay. It moved along and i was not really bored at any point. Narration was good.
Just not an ‘exciting’ plot.

Intriguing story, stellar sex, excellent narration

I've listened to all four books in the series and found them all to be intriguing and the narration excellent. The sex scenes are some of the best I've ever listened to, and the story itself was not at all predictable. I found all four books well worth paying for, so I'm very pleased that they are included in my subscription.

Great series!

Didn’t shy away from difficulties associated with soldiers living through wartime or captivity, the relationships were well balanced, and the females were strong without giving up their femininity. The characters had flaws and love blossomed in spite of them.

Good love story, bad mystery.

These two sweet, broken people fall in love and the moments are quite romantic. Unfortunately, the mystery is awful. Fraught with inconsistencies, confusion, and unanswered question. The ending is a huge disappointment with the author having an obvious oops moment realizing that the bread crumbs have led the reader no where so a villain we have had zero reference too jumps out of the woodwork at the last minute. Sad. I would have preferred a cliffhanger with a following little novella to wrap up all the loose ends that were left.

Great series

Really enjoyed this read!! All the books were great. If I could have changed anything it would have been the ending of the last one. It needed to be longer!! Hated to see it end!

Great story but

It’s a really good story but the narrator sort of ruins it… she runs flat and i almost stopped listening several times from her. No intensity or feeling. But the story has a lot so it’s worth reading for sure.
