Publisher's summary

Diana Gabaldon's immensely popular Outlander saga soars to new heights with this seventh novel, which takes listeners on a breathtaking journey to 1777 America.

Jamie Fraser knows from his time-traveling wife Claire that, no matter how unlikely it seems, America will win the Revolutionary War. But that truth offers little solace, since Jamie realizes he might find himself pointing a weapon directly at his own son - a young officer in the British army.

And Jamie isn't the only one with a tormented soul - for Claire may know who wins the conflict, but she certainly doesn't know whether or not her beloved Jamie survives.

Epic in scope and featuring a colorful cast that includes many legendary figures - including hero-turned-traitor Benedict Arnold and bawdy statesman Benjamin Franklin - An Echo in the Bone is a thrill from start to finish.

Love this saga!

Davina Porter is brilliant! Her performance was once again, amazing! The story was good - a little slow in places, but I continue to enjoy watching the story of these characters unfold. I can't wait to see what is in store for me in book 8!

Beautifully and perfectly narrated!

Davina Porter is an incredible narrator. I read the previous novels in the series myself, but enjoyed the Audible version so much more because of the wonderful Scottish brogue.

Another addition to the series

It was good, and if your a fan of the series, you will enjoy it, but it isnt as good as the first 4 books. A lot of the characters take bizarre turns of personality. Jenny, Lord John, and Claire all do things you wouldnt expect their characters to do. Not to mention the bizarre twist that happens to Bree and Roger.

But if you like the books it will still hold up. If you love Jamie and Claire, you will enjoy this book.

The best since voyager

Would you consider the audio edition of An Echo in the Bone to be better than the print version?

I have read many of the books, then decided to buy the audio versions. There is absolutely no comparison that can be made. The autio version is so superior, due to the amazing abilities of Davina Porter. The books simply come alive in the audio versions. Her pronounciation of names and the Gaelic phrases, so wonderfully done add an unexpected beauty to the stories.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I can't really say who was a favorite character. I loved them all and was very happy that I could readily tell who was speaking by the changes of voice so well done by Davina Porter.I think that her "jamie" is superb. The changes of mood and emotion shown in his voice was perfection.

Which character – as performed by Davina Porter – was your favorite?

They were all done wonderfully well.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Several years ago I had purchased the Lord John series including the Scottish Prisoner, all in book form. When I began An Echo in the Bone, I immediately saw that she had begun to bring the Outlander series and Lord John series together......as they had to if all story lines were to continue to progress.
I couldn't remember many of the smaller characters in the Lord John series and realized that An Echo in the Bone wasn't going to make a lot of sense or at least wouldn't be nearly as enjoyable if I didn't review the Lord John books. So I bought the audio ones and listened to them all again.......then restarted An Echo in the Bone. What a difference. The richness of the story and signifigance of the characters was most vibrant and added much to my enjoyment.
As the story now stands at the end of Echo in the Bone, I believe that if other readers want to enjoy this or furture books and not be constantly finding themselves wondering who some of the characters are or how they are realitive to the plot........get the Lord John series and listen to them all. They are very good and well worth your time.
Lord John and his family are in themselves both complicated and interesting. Also the Scottish Prisoner further defines his relationship to Jamie and is a darn good story, on its own merit.

Any additional comments?

Happy listening to all.

As always great story (not so good ending)

The line was very well developed, typical level of detail. However, the ending seemed rushed (like there was a deadline or vacation nearing). There was far too much wrapped up in the final 4 or 5 chapters.
