Publisher's summary

Diana Gabaldon's immensely popular Outlander saga soars to new heights with this seventh novel, which takes listeners on a breathtaking journey to 1777 America.

Jamie Fraser knows from his time-traveling wife Claire that, no matter how unlikely it seems, America will win the Revolutionary War. But that truth offers little solace, since Jamie realizes he might find himself pointing a weapon directly at his own son - a young officer in the British army.

And Jamie isn't the only one with a tormented soul - for Claire may know who wins the conflict, but she certainly doesn't know whether or not her beloved Jamie survives.

Epic in scope and featuring a colorful cast that includes many legendary figures - including hero-turned-traitor Benedict Arnold and bawdy statesman Benjamin Franklin - An Echo in the Bone is a thrill from start to finish.

Featured Article: Claire Fraser—An Outlander Character Guide

Claire Fraser is the central character, first-person narrator, and driving force of Diana Gabaldon's epic Outlander series. As ambitious and enormous as the world of Outlander is, it’s the characters and their relationships that make the story so compelling. At its heart is the love shared between Claire and Jamie, two people who ultimately would not let time or distance—even hundreds of years—keep them apart.

Not finished but had to come back to warn others!

I'm half way through this newest book. I spent the summer rereading all the previous books in the series. Yes I love them that much. I just felt I needed a refresher because so much time had past (no pun intended) and there are so many details and story lines to track. When I finally finished the other books and came to purchase Echo in the Bone I was shocked to see so many poor reviews. I bought it anyway, of course. So glad I did. I'm enjoying Echo in the Bone almost as much as Outlander. It is well written, fast moving, colorful, funny, heart wrenching, and a fascinating perspective of a variety of real people during the revolution. Don't let the naysayers dissuade you. If you are a tried and true fan you will enjoy this book as much or more so than the rest of the series. And to those of you that included spoilers in your review, shame on you!

Too many loose ends!!

As much as I want this series to continue forever, in the previous novels, one could walk away if that were to be the end. But this one really leaves a lot of loose ends for us to wonder about while waiting for the next book.
As for the story, it was quite good! The narrator always does a wonderful job.

Good listen

Where does An Echo in the Bone rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Was a little disappointed in this book. I have listened to all the books in the Outlander series and have thoroughly enjoyed all of them. This one, though, left me a little wanting. I didn't every get to the "edge of my seat" excitement the other books brought. I hope there is a next book because this one left me, Jamie, Claire, and Jem hanging.

What about Davina Porter’s performance did you like?

Ms. Porter's performance has been outstanding in all the books! I am amazed how she keeps the voices for all the characters straight. She really brings the books to life!

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Not really. While listening the other books in the series, I was always disappointed when I reached my destination. ( I listen to the books in the car.) Not with this book. Don't get me wrong. I enjoyed the book but it seemed there was less excitement or tense moments or something was just a little different in this book. Still a good book and I am hoping the next book is close to being published.

So happy the saga goes on

Full of adventure, love, and terror, the story was hard to leave. I like history and this depiction of the Revolutionary war was personal and real from a view of those not fighting but traveling with the ragged troops. If you have read or listened to the other books, this is a must read

This book really delivers excitement.

All of Diana's books leave you wanting more and this one is no exception. I would like to add that most series tend to have a few short and even week in the plot books but Diana's books after reading all up to this point have proven to keep me on the edge throughout the entire story.

Love this series

This might not be the best in the series, but I still love it. My grandfather was born and raised in Glasgow, but moved to the USA in 1901. I never really knew much of my Scottish heritage, but these books have made me feel so much more connected to Scotland, and my family heritage and with excellent writing and a great story to boot!
