Publisher's summary

That hot guy tied to Lissianna Argeneau's bed? He's not dessert - he's the main course! Lissianna has been spending her centuries pining for Mr. Right, not just a quick snack, and this sexy guy she finds in her bed looks like he might be a candidate.

But there's another, more pressing issue: her tendency to faint at the sight of blood . . . an especially annoying quirk for a vampire. Of course it doesn't hurt that this man has a delicious-looking neck. What kind of cold-blooded vampire woman could resist a bite of that?

Dr. Gregory Hewitt recovers from the shock of waking up in a stranger's bedroom pretty quickly - once he sees a gorgeous woman about to treat him to a wild night of passion. But is it possible for the good doctor to find true love with a vampire vixen, or will he be just a good meal? That's a question Dr. Greg might be willing to sink his teeth into . . . if he can just get Lissianna to bite.

Audio recording is horrible 👎

Setting: Toronto, present day
Genre: paranormal romance
This is my first full-length book by Lynsay Sands in this genre. My first exposure to the Argeneau family was in a novella I listened to while I was in my all-anthology phase. At any rate...
I enjoyed this multi-layered story very much. I couldn't go with 5 stars because there were a couple of instances of "oh come on! Can't you see what's going on here?" in the mystery. I did say multi-layered, didn't I? There's a big problem with Lissianna fainting at the sight of blood, which would be a problem for a vampire who is supposed to get her nutrition via blood bags. So, as a birthday gift, her mother kidnaps Greg, who is a therapist specializing in the treatment of phobias. Finding him tied to the bed in her old room, Lissianna takes a sample, thinking that he is her special birthday treat. Greg is understandably upset with the situation until Lissi starts kissing him and finds that he's attracted. And she's attracted to him, beyond his tastiness and purpose. There is the romance, the problem with her phobia, as well as a mystery involving a plot to kill her. The mystery is where I get eye-roll syndrome. Maybe it isn't supposed to be a mystery for the reader? But please! If the reader gets it, why doesn't she? It sort of made me want to grab her and yell, "can't you see what's going on here?" I could see it from its introduction into the plotline.
The biggest problem with this audiobook is the production. Notice I didn't say narration, because Victoria McGee did a fairly good job with the voice and inflection of the characters. It would have been great if there hadn't been huge gaps where there shouldn't have been. I don't mean chapter breaks, which were over-long, but intra-paragraph stops. No, it was that there were breaks within many of the sentences. It dragged me right out of the story. That made me sad. 😭
I do wish this could be re-recorded, which would make it worth a full credit. Otherwise, try to get it on sale and grit your teeth though the production problems.

COULD BE A GOOD LISTEN BUT....

Would you be willing to try another one of Victoria McGee’s performances?

No, she sounds like a robot. She didn't add any character to the characters.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Maybe if another Narrator read it. It was hard to listen to because she was robotic and flat :(

Great Vampire Story

I am a huge fan of vampire stories and this a great one too. Very different from others from Molly Brown or Charlaine Harris. I will definitely continue the series.

Loved the story; hated the narrator

Is there anything you would change about this book?

I would edit out the sex scenes; way to detailed for my tastes.

What didn’t you like about Victoria McGee’s performance?

She is too robotic. She sounds forced, trying to be suductive, but comes across like a 1-900 call.

Was A Quick Bite worth the listening time?

I really enjoyed the story line. It was entertaining and fun, however, it has too many very detailed sex scenes for my taste. I would fast forward through them.

Read by AI or computer phone system…

The story was OK, wanted something I could listen to while cleaning and doing tasks that didn’t require a lot of focus on the story or plot. I like Sand’s books and read early books in this series around 2010 or so, but decided to get back into it as audio books. McGee’s narration is one of the worst I have ever listened to though. 400+ audiobooks and I have never experienced such a bland narration of any book. I actually thought it was AI at first and opened the title details to check. I really hope for future narrations they switch or McGee livens up a bit. No energy, no charisma, flat as a pancake throughout.

Not terrible. Just okay.

The story felt very slow moving with repetitive dialogue. The story was somewhat interesting, but it wasn’t compelling enough for me to want to continue with the series.
