Publisher's summary

Jordan Rhodes is invited to all of Chicago's best parties, but there's only one the FBI wants to crash. To get her brother out of jail, she agrees to take Agent McCall as her date. But when the mission gets botched, requiring their "relationship" to continue, it starts to feel less like an investigation-and a lot like something else.

Great Series!

What made the experience of listening to A Lot Like Love the most enjoyable?

I really enjoyed the storyline and the characters - although this was wasn't quite as suspenseful as the first one in this series - I still really enjoyed it very much.

What did you like best about this story?

The characters and also I enjoyed learning a bit more about wine industry.

What does Karen White bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

She does a really great job of bringing these characters alive.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes and I did just that!

Narration a big issue

Another great Julie James book - well-written with interesting characters. I found the narration annoying and almost considered stopping several times to move to print. Spotty accents, the enunciation makes the characters all sound bored or snobby beyond belief.

Fast-paced enjoyable crime-investigating-romance

I tore through this one at an incredible pace, especially considering that whole work day thing and a few hours of dance classes which happened to interrupt my reading...

I loved the leading couple. They each had strong character, and I caught myself laughing aloud in public at their quips and sarcasm. I was a bit on edge the whole time, just waiting for something to go wrong with the investigation, waiting for a shoe to drop... and even felt as if I had predicted how it would... so when it seemed it did I was waiting for the other - and having read some more intense crime books than this I was seriously worried about any potential climactic showdown with bad guys. Without giving spoilers, I was spared the intensity, and the level of the suspense and danger in the climactic scene matched pretty well with the tone of the book (and not as perilous as what Jack and Cameron faced previously, or so it seemed to me).

Anyway, it was fun, to watch them go from antagonistic to fake dating, to a whirlwind romantic weekend. My only issue was that I didn't particularly like the dialogue when they, er, became intimate. I lack appreciation for dirty talk in real life too, but I have not always minded it in fiction... just something about the style here rubbed me the wrong way. *shrugs*

Supporting characters were great too, loved the family members and friends.
Narration was good, fit the tone of the story well, and usually captured their emotions perfectly. The male voices were a bit unsatisfying and indistinguishable. Also had a bit of trouble telling when thoughts were internal or spoken aloud when interspersed with the dialogue, but it was usually denoted afterwards when it was only said in her head.

Very witty and sexy. Fast-paced enjoyable crime-investigating-romance.

Cute

While I enjoyed this one and will read the next episode, you know what I think would help it--another narrator. I don't think she was able to pull of the changing of the voices well enough. In those cases, the narrator should just "he said, she said". Still, I have not given up on her.

I hope in the next episode, the writer puts more suspense in it. When there is more, I think they have more depth and more to hang on to, if you know what I mean.

Horrible narration

Narrator ruined the sexy male lead from the book. Makes his sound like a 55 year old mobster in a badly acted mafia movie. Just no!

Story line light and fun but reader awful.

Basically the story was good but the reader was so awful I almost stopped listening a number of times. Her interpretation of Nick was so bad it was hard to tolerate him, never mind see him as a romantic figure. He sounded like a stupid thug. When I took the reader's voice out of a conversation, I tried to "hear" Nick a different way that could at least give me a chance to imagine Jordan falling for him. I would totally recommend getting a new reader and offering the book again.

Really enjoyed!

I'm really enjoying this series. It's a great mix of serious and fun. The audiobooks are fantastic. It's such an easy listen and it grabs you immediately. I have a tough time stopping when I need to get back to life.

The serious part comes when the FBI ask billionaire heiress, Jordan Rhodes to help an undercover agent get into an exclusive wine party. When the host that the FBI are investigating is jealous of Jordan's new companion, FBI agent Nick McCall and Jordan must pretend to be dating for longer than one night.

That's where the fun begins. Nick has a preconceived notion of Jordan being a princess due to her fathers money. Jordan has fun proving him wrong. What follows is a fun story with lots of banter. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series.
