Publisher's summary

Olivia Kiskey needs a change. She’s been working at the same Nodaway Falls, New York, waffle house since she was a teenager; not a lot of upward mobility there. She’s been in love with Tobias, the cook, for the last four years; he's never made a move. Every Saturday night, she gathers with her three best friends—Peach, Millie, and Stacy—and drinks the same margaritas while listening to the same old stories. Intent on shaking things up, she puts her house on the market, buys a one-way ticket to Europe, and announces her plans to her friends... but then she meets Davina Granville, a strange and mystical Southern woman who shows Olivia that there is more to her life than she ever dreamed.

As Liv’s latent magical powers come to the surface, she discovers that having an interesting life is maybe not all it’s cracked up to be. The dark side of someone else’s magic is taking over good people in town, and changing them into vessels of malevolence. Unwilling to cede her home to darkness, she battles the demons of her familial past and her magical present, with those she loves at her side - and in the cross fire. Can the most important things in life—friendship, love, magic, and waffles—get her through the worst that the universe can throw at her?

enjoyable new book

This was quite a pleasant surprise to find. I don't usually read books on magic and witchcraft, preferring werewolves and vampires. This book has become the exception, though, and I can't wait until the author follows up with another book. It isn't dark and evil like some in the genre, and has good bits of humor to lighten it up as well.

Writing is Very Similar to Molly Harper

Great narration. I like to list this first as it can make or break a story.

Great story. Written in a style with is very similar to Molly Harper who I love.

I really enjoy it when readers with similar reading interests list their favourite authors and series. It really helps me find new authors too follow. Mine are Charlaine Harris, Jeaniene Frost, Jennifer Estep, Faith Hunter, Molly Harper, Ilona Andrews, Kresley Cole, Deborah Harkness, Nalini Singh, Coreene Callahan, Stacia Kane, Kelly Medding and Sherrilyn Kenyon.

Happy Reading

A story for teenage girls

It's about friendships of girls who grew up together and how you dont always know the ins and outs of it. It's a good read for the tests of lasting friendships

Well it was a book

It wasn't a great book, it wasn't a bad book. The premise that a 28 year old becomes magical wasn't absurd, but it wasn't realistic. The male and female lead had good chemistry, then no chemistry, then weird chemistry. There were no hot scenes, and yet I didn't mind because it wasn't that type of book.

Yeah, I'm kind if speechless because I'll never listen to it again, but it wasn't bad. I guess it's kind if like vanilla ice cream....sure I prefer mint chocolate chip and rocky road because they taste awesome and are so lively...but every now and then plain old vanilla is okay. At least the narrator was awesome and I did laugh out loud a few times.

All in all, pick it up at the $4.95 sale, but not worth a credit or a buy...but once again it wasn't bad....it was, well a book!

Fun listen and great narration, but...

too many TSTL actions on the part of the h kept this from being a 5. Definitely recommend for a light read.

Cute story but rather predictable.

I enjoy the narrator's voice but it also reminds me of other characters she's narrated.

Cute little romantic story to cleanse the palate.

Start with a cute idea with some interesting takes on a well used theme. Put in a dash of forced, frustrating romantic interaction. Add one adorable living mug-bunny and one living paper crane. Stir in the weird plot twists. Throw in a few funny moments and you get this story. The whole of it seemed rushed to me. Maybe because it was resolved and wrapped up in the last 20 minutes of the story? Overall though, I did enjoy this as a nice palate cleanser between heavy stories. A great book to listen to while cleaning.
