Publisher's Summary

A mythic warrior who'll stop at nothing to possess her....

After enduring years of torture from the vampire horde, Lachlain MacRieve, leader of the Lykae Clan, is enraged to find the predestined mate he's waited millennia for is a vampire. Or partly one. This Emmaline is a small, ethereal half Valkyrie/half vampire, who somehow begins to soothe the fury burning within him.

A vampire captured by her wildest fantasy....

Sheltered Emmaline Troy finally sets out to uncover the truth about her deceased parents - until a powerful Lykae claims her as his mate and forces her back to his ancestral Scottish castle. There, her fear of the Lykae - and their notorious dark desires - ebbs as he begins a slow, wicked seduction to sate her own dark cravings.

An all-consuming desire....

Yet when an ancient evil from her past resurfaces, will their desire deepen into a love that can bring a proud warrior to his knees and turn a gentle beauty into the fighter she was born to be?

    "Fantastic!!!"

I can tell I'm going to tear through this series! The story line is great and engaging. You don't get bored even for a moment. The author definitely reached his goal of taking you to climatic points, but pulling back before release- some would call it teasing. ;) I literally laughed out loud. The humor, the intrigue, the lust... The narrator! OMG! Wonderful, I hate a good book made terrible by a bland, monotone narrator. Definitely not the case here. I will be searching for all books narrated by Petkoff.

    "Suprisingly Good"

Very Good, despite the lack of smex... I mean there was a lot of build up til the smex but this was very good book.

The blurp pretty much explains what happens in the book. Lacklon, the king of the weres, finds his mate in Paris, but she is a vampire... well a half-breed. The story pretty much follows Lacklon and his mate going back to Scotland and Lacklon trying to convince his mate that she is his mate and not to leave him. It actually has a lot of action. A lot of action. Even though this is a romance, its more of action than anything else, and it keeps you wanting to know what is gonna happen next. Good plot points, and very creative world.
Totally worth the credit. I wouldn't buy it, just wait for free credit.

I never, and I mean never listen to male narrators, but I took a chance on this, and I am glad I did. The narrator was very good with the female voices. Usually male narrator make females sound all whinny, but Petkoff did great. When he was narrating he used a different voice from the character, which was surprising. The males had different voices than the narration..which made the book come to life, actually.

"Like no other romance you have read before!"
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes, I adore the author. However, I would love a woman one without a whine or flat voice to read the female parts with Robert Petkoff. However, if I had to choose a woman or a man to read these books I 'm glad they chose a man especially one with an amazing voice like Mr. Petkoff. He does sound a silly when he reads the girl parts. Sorry, but his voice is exceedingly masculine how could he not. Love you Ms. Cole.

    Any additional comments?

Kresley Cole writes a true romance. Many times authors forget they are writing a romance and focus on a mystery or adventure. Ms. Cole also has those types of storylines in her books but she still concentrates on the relationship between the hero and the heroine. I love that and I find it surprisingly rare in fantasy/sci-fi romances. Her males are extremely masculine and her females powerful yet feminine. You do not have to read her books in order but I found it to be more enjoyable. She writes for adults and there are some of the best sex scenes I have ever read.

"Not Bad if You Don't Mind Timid, Whiny Heroines"

I give this one 3.5 stars. I really liked Lachlain's character. I particularly liked the audiobook's narrator and his Scottish brogue. I haven't listened to many romances on audiobook, but the ones I have listened to have been read by women from a mostly female point of view. It was refreshing to hear this one from a man's point of view, but his reading of the women's voices was a bit grating. Particular, Emmaline.

I was pretty much annoyed with her character most of the book (and it had nothing to do with his reading of her.) In the beginning her timidity was understandable. I mean, I would be scared too if I was hunted down on the street by some unholy beast. But then she continued to be a complete and utter wuss for about 75% of the book, continuously flip flopping and whining, even despite her growing attraction to our leading man, Lachlain.

Many times throughout the book, Cole seemed to be drawing out the drama unnecessarily and the book was very uneven to say the least. It starts out with a bang, drawing you in as Lachlain escapes his 150 year imprisonment by tearing off his own leg and then limps (pun very much intended) along as we learn more about Emma and all of her hang-ups and Lachlain learns about the modern world. And along the way, the book teases you with a lot of "almosts" and "maybes" before suddenly taking a complete 180 where Emma accepts everything, barely giving another thought to all of her previous waffling.

In the end, it wasn't a bad read. Overall, I would say I enjoyed it. But it wasn't a great read when it could have been. But I will admit that despite my annoyance with Emmaline, I'm tempted to try another in the series. It doesn't seem as if the other heroines of Cole's paranormal world are quite as sissified as annoying Emmaline, and for me, a strong and consistent heroine just might be the key to unlocking the full potential of these books.

    "LOVED IT!"
What did you love best about A Hunger Like No Other?

Robert Petkoff's narration - especially as Lachlan (Forest scene!!!)....

Who was your favorite character and why?

Lachlan - love the scottish 'growl' .....

Which character – as performed by Robert Petkoff – was your favorite?

Robert does an excellent job of Lachlan - in transition, "you're there" in the forest, quivering with the excitement!

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

Bit of everything... Wasn't too gushy, and 'twinkly' so to speak. I initially purchased the book because it had rave reviews about the narration, which truly did exceed my expectations. Well worth the purchase.
