Publisher's summary

On the trail of a vicious criminal, agent Chance Mackenzie found the perfect bait for his trap: Sunny Miller. So Chance made himself the only man she could trust—and then arranged for her long-missing father to find out about them.

What Chance hadn't foreseen was that Sunny had reasons of her own for hiding from her father—and now Chance's deception had brought them both one step closer to the end of everything they held dear….

Love Linda Howard

What did you like best about this story?

Love the series. Wish it was longer and not one of her shorter stories.

Any additional comments?

Shorter stories should not cost a whole credit. That or a two for one.

Took a chance, it paid off.

I want to start out by saying I love Linda Howard, her books are for the most part an automatic download for me. The only reason I have held off from listening to this series is the fact that the other books are so short, I hate the idea of wasting a credit of a 5 hour listen even if it is a Linda Howard. I took a chance and downloaded this one and loved it. You do not need to have listened to the other books in the series although it mentions some character I assume were previously featured this can definitely serve as a stand alone novel. I really enjoyed both Chance and Sunny. Everything about them and their story was an easy listen for me. While the obstacles standing in the way of their happily ever after are nothing innovative or unique I really enjoyed the entire listen. This download was full of passion and humor and I will definitely be listening to it again.

Series Review- Take a chance on this one!

SERIES Review

This series is interesting. Linda Howard’s premise about the MacKenzie family is good, but the first books are not very good. The first books have pretty unbelievable situations such as a rescued hostage and a rescuer having hot (virgin) sex hours after escaping, lounging around naked for hours while in hiding, in enemy territory (!!!) Come on...What???
The series was written over the span of 10 years and you can see the difference in the quality of writing, and the development of the author. If I didn’t have a special deal through a package, I would have stopped listening after the first audiobook. But, it gets better, Here is my take:

MacKenzie’s Mission**-Clearly early work, Story/Suspense is not very believable, requires too much “suspended belief”, narration a bit off, 2 Stars, not worth a credit.

MacKenzie’s Pleasure***-Improved writing, good idea for story/suspense, but the development of the relationship and intimacy is truly unbelievable, average narration: same narrator does a better job in this one, 2.5-3 stars, not worth a credit

MacKenzie’s Magic***-Short story, Better writing, cute, narrator gets the groove, 3.5 stars. Worth it on sale.

A Game of Chance****- Best of series, there are almost 10 years between the writing of this book and the first in the series. This is clearly much more mature writing. The story and suspense are more believable and develops reasonably. The relationship development is also more believable, more natural, it is infused with a healthy sense of humor and it sizzles. The happy ending does not come easily, they have to work for it a little. The The book draws you in from the beginning and can be a stand alone novel. Female narration is pretty good.
4 stars overall, recommended for fun, Worth a Credit!

STORY: 3.5- 4 stars. This is actually a pretty good story with nice writing and interesting suspense that does not require too much suspended believe.

RELATIONSHIP/HEAT: 4 stars. Develops reasonably and more believable, written well. The relationship is sizzling, and infused with humor.

NARRATION: 3.5 stars. Pretty good, KD has a generally nice voice and acts just right for this genre. She needs to work on her male voices, but she has potential.

OVERALL: 4 stars for this genre, easy fun listen, best of series, worth a credit.

Great ending, although She should have hit Chance

I loved the continuation of the family characters but more importantly, I adored the fully fledged character of Sunny. Her motives and background were fully explained and I loved her personality.

Good book, poor editing

I enjoyed the book, but it had many phrases that the narrator repeated, but were not edited out.

What the heck???

What kind of groveling was that??? He didn’t even try? A few flowers and he said he loved her so it’s all ok?? No thanks I’m pissed as all hell at this book. Good story but rushed ending he didn’t even apologize? And what sort of parents are cool with that? “Yeah son you tricked this woman into having sex with you (basically rape) and then used her as bait all the while she was doing everything in her power to save you. We’re proud of you” ugh gross she didn’t even have one person in her corner what a bunch of bs. She trauma bonded with her kidnapper and not in the good way

female narrator did not ruin the story!

I so disagree with a previous review that the female narrator ruined the book. It was a great story that pulled me in to conclude the Mackenzie family series. I didn’t have any problems with enjoying the story.
