New Narrator Destroys the Ending

I started with Transmission, worked my way through Arrival, gobbled up Ascent... and was excited to begin Return when the unthinkable happens - the narrator is suddenly changed. Three books, one narrator. It grows on you. You hear the characters and enjoy the cadence... well this new narrator puts a British accent on all the characters that were previously standard American accents, and made all the female characters sound ridiculous. It totally destroyed what I had hoped would be a good ending to the series.

Seriously, change narrator on the last book???

I have to say, I have really been enjoying this series. Books 1 through 3 I thought were outstanding and the narrator did a wonderful job with nice character definition and a unique voice for each character. Then we get to book 4, the final book in the series. Now all of a sudden the characters all have an English accent?
Nothing against an English accent, had it been used throughout the entire series it would have been different. But to change it on the last book absolutely ruined it for me.

Different narrator

I love Morgan Rice's books. This narrator isn't bad exactly, but may be new to this?

I miss the other one. He was well spoken with a now familiar and loved voice and he really differentiated between characters.

This one can't disguise his accent well or consistently so that the American characters sound like they are from the UK.

Plus all the characters sound exactly the same. They all sound simpering, questioning, and slightly drunk.

With the other three books read by the other narrator, even if not stated, you could usually perceive who was speaking with the main characters. The difference in hive mind Kevin and normal Kevin....wow.

I wish this one had read the other three and practiced a bit.

I might have to read this instead of listening. However listening helps me get other things done when I'm not working at my home bases job.

It was something to look forward to on my breaks and a great accompaniment to laundry, dishes, cooking, meals, etc.

I am sure, eventually, this narrator will be as good as other one the author used, but right now, the change is very disappointing.

This is not intended to undermine the narrator's aspirations but more work needs to be done with accents, if an American based story, character voices etc.

Struggled to finish

Narrator was not to my liking 😒 different from first 3 books his voice was very child like and was not given feelings of serious enough for situations in book.

Switch

The narrator spoke with an English accent, a switch from the previous books making it less than desirable.

this was horrid, should be re-written.

the narrator is basically just reading it as if it's a child's book, just because there are children involved. would have been better if he would have read or listened to the first three books before he decided to jump into this one, because it's clear that he had no idea what was going on.

also it feels like Morgan Rice is just trying to tie up loose ends rather than complete a story. last two books felt totally rushed like they were skeletons of ideas instead of well thought out premises.

overall pretty terrible for this one....
