Valuable insights

This book has high quality content. But i feel that one better have at least some experience in meditation in order to appreciate and relate to it. If you’re interested in taking your medication from a mere tool to finding peace to a tool of becoming then i highly recommend it

Enlightener

I have listened twice this book and plan to hear it again. That's the first time it happens with me after a few years as an Audible subscriber. The book is so profound and intriguing to our western mentality that it worth the effort. Event if you are not prepared to initiate the path of enlightenment (I am not sure I am...), at least you will have a better and clear understanding of what it represents. I have a very critical mind but loved the way Shinzen addresses the topics, although so difficult they are to be understood. Very insightful as well is the chapters "On the broad picture", in the second part of the audio. My first reaction to the title was skeptical, because it refers to "Science", which I have never related to spirituality. But Shinzen addresses the path of enlightenment in a so objective and straight forward way, without mixing it with religion, that now I understand the title and find it appropriate. This is the kind of book that will open your mind, and therefore don't expect it to be an easy book. Give it a try with patience and equanimity. This may change your life.

If you are interested in understanding meditation

This book helped me begin a regular practice after years of false starts. If you have an interest in meditation and are looking for an understanding of what it can do for you, and how it will do it, you will not be dissappointed. The guided mediations that are included are helpful. Until I listened to this book I could not find the time to practice regularly.

Just outstanding!

This is a wonderful, learned talk about Buddhism, life, just about everything in the universe, that goes on seemingly forever! Others may differ, but I love Shinzen Youngs voice, its quirky, southern California and so warm and accessible. This is the second time I have listened to this set of lectures, the first on CD, and I love it even more!

Incredible book!

This might very well be the best book I’ve ever listen to. The man is brilliantly intelligent, well spoken, His thoughts are flowing and completely understandable. If you don’t listen to this book you have failed yourself. If you listen to this book it will change your life.

Best book on the practice of meditation for the scientific mind

Over the years, I have been practicing meditation on my own. I have read and reviewed liberature on meditation from many traditions. This series of lectures and practice sessions come the closest to my own experience of meditation. I find hte explanations, as synthesized from the knowledge and the experience that the author has had, simply profound. Ultimately though, I am particularly interested in the method used to approach the subject and the hope that it leaves in me for the future of meditation and science.
