Publisher's summary

The End of Faith. The God Delusion. God Is Not Great. Letter to a Christian Nation. Best seller lists are filled with doubters. But what happens when you actually doubt your doubts?

Timothy Keller, the founding pastor of Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City, addresses the frequent doubts that skeptics, and even ardent believers, have about religion. Using literature, philosophy, real-life conversations, and potent reasoning, Keller explains how the belief in a Christian God is, in fact, a sound and rational one. To true believers he offers a solid platform on which to stand their ground against the backlash to religion created by the Age of Skepticism. And to skeptics, atheists, and agnostics, he provides a challenging argument for pursuing the reason for God.

Critic reviews

"It is easy to understand [Timothy Keller's] appeal." (The New York Times)

"In a flood of best sellers by skeptics and atheists...Keller stands out as an effective counterpoint and defender of the faith. The Reason for God makes a tight, accessible case for reasoned religious belief." (The Washington Post)

"It's a provocative premise, in pursuit of which Keller...takes on nonbelievers from evolutionary biologists to the recent rash of atheist authors." (The Boston Globe)

WOW!

WOW! I am (almost) speechless! This has got to be my FAVorite read in the last year!! Tim Keller is the strong bridge between the dichotomy of super intelligent (head) and super lover (heart)! Listening to him read his own words made it so personal - I felt as though we were having a deep and meaningful conversation over coffee in a comfortable cafe somewhere in the city. Again, I say, "WOW!" - ANY person, regardless of creed or religion would benefit from diving into the "deep-end" with this very thoughtful, very intelligent man! Thank you, Mr. Keller - you are well-read, respectful, and incredibly gracious!! And thank you, Audible, for making this so accessible! It is one I will listen to over and over again - and suggest to ALL my friends!

Good ABRIDGED version. missing chapter markers!

Buyer beware! When I purchased this I did not realize that I was purchasing an Abridged version, or that the chapters are not broken up like most audible books are. Instead, there are five CD-length chapters that do not correspond to the book chapters. This is an amazing book that I would recommend to any modern person seeking solid answers to difficult questions about religion.

Clarity in my understanding of who Christ is and the acceptance of my skeptical thoughts and questions...

Timothy Keller clearly presents the common personal and historical questions for ‘why have faith’. Interesting views from USA cultural
perspectives (particularly the well educated youth’s skeptical beliefs and (valid) questions about Christianity. I liked Keller’s perspective that ‘It’s Ok to have questions’ but don’t stop there! Dive In - research and answer those many questions! Don’t take on second hand faith... make it your own, with the most thorough digging of information that you can find by looking at every clue from a forensic perspective!
Keller answers them from an open and well researched position: comparing and contrasting many popular authors and studies from science and literature. Listening to this book was so much easier to process than reading it would have been - but having both would be helpful too if you want/need to go back and refresh your thoughts. Keller’s emphasis on Why God is both ‘Love and relational’ portrayed in a mutual dance of Joy with God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit was such a great visualization for why humans innately need each other. Loved it!
Also loved the way he balanced the USA current 1st world view of the Bible and its interpretation through the lens of other cultures and historical ancient Jewish culture and writings vs other books of antiquity - fascinating! A must read to process ones own faith questions (and not simply repeat scripture & rote beliefs). Great resource to be able to answer other’s questions as well as to grow in your own faith journey.
Regardless of what side you might be on in this discussion - we all have our own faith journey - based on our belief system and within that context, we all live and will ultimately die. So what could be more important to fully explore Why you believe what you believe? Nothing I can think of...

Great perspective on Christianity!

This book did not only address Christianity and God from a religious and philosophical perspective, but also from a scientific and historical angle, which really helped shape my understanding of God and the bible.

A great book for those with questions

Honestly it was so good that I need to listen to it again. Not since "Mere Christianity" has a book made me think so much about what Christianity is and isn't.

One of the best

If you could sum up The Reason for God in three words, what would they be?

Great apologetic book.

Have you listened to any of Timothy Keller’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

Yes, and this one is the best so far.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, the ideas are a little bit to heavy at times for that.

Any additional comments?

I've read numerous Christian apologetics books and this is one of the best. My only complaint is that the performer, who I believe was Timothy Keller, spoke to fast at times. The ideas are not light, and going a little slower would have been helpful.
