"We know we need grace. Without it we'd never come to Christ in the first place. But being a Christian is more than just coming to Christ. It's about growing and becoming more like Jesus. It's about pursing holiness. The pursuit of holiness is hard work, and that's were we turn from grace to discipline. Grace is every bit as important for growing as a Christian as it is for becoming a Christian in the first place. Grace is at the heart of the gospel, and without a clear understanding of the gospel and grace we can easily slip into a performance based lifestyle that bears little resemblance to what the gospel has to offer us. The Discipline Of Grace offers a clear and thorough explanation of the gospel and what it means to the believer, and how the same grace that brings us to faith in Christ also disciplines us in Christ, and how we learn to discipline ourselves in the areas of commitment, convictions, choices, watchfulness, and adversity. The Discipline of Grace is highly recommended reading for anyone struggling to overcome the world in Christ." (Midwest Book Review)
This book helps Christians take their faith to the practical level. What is it to be a follower of Christ day by ordinary day? This book helps you answer that question and encourages you with the application of the gospel.
It isn't separated into chapters.
If it were really separated into 18 chapters.
This book has 18 Chapters but the recording is separated into only 6 chapters. And these chapter divisions are sometimes right in the middle of a sentence. How is one supposed to make any sense out of that? Bookmarks? Well what if I'm not able to place a bookmark because I'm listening while not close to my iPad?
Shows how to successful navigate and use our daily experience to successfully grow in Christ using the power and comfort of grace.
With this one book, I have identified many of my own self defeating practices and beliefs. So impressed am I with it, that I'm actually taking time to write this review.
I am never disappointed in any book authored by Jerry Bridges. His books are always insightful. I felt sad hearing he past away this past March. I do know he is enjoying being in the presence of our beautiful Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
one of the best books I've ever read on this particular subject. It was well researched and studied and very biblical it give insight and a fresh look at this topic. It is written in a scholarly fashion show somebody that is a simpleton like me had to read it a couple times to get it but it was wonderful.
