Publisher's summary

Mere Christianity is C.S. Lewis' forceful and accessible doctrine of Christian belief. First heard as informal radio broadcasts and then published as three separate books, The Case for Christianity, Christian Behavior, and Beyond Personality, Mere Christianity brings together what Lewis sees as the fundamental truths of the religion. Rejecting the boundaries that divide Christianity's many denominations, C.S. Lewis finds a common ground on which all those who have Christian faith can stand together, proving that "at the center of each there is something, or a Someone, who against all divergences of belief, all differences of temperament, all memories of mutual persecution, speaks with the same voice".

Critic reviews

"Geoffrey Howard's performance is superb; he is clear and unhurried, giving just the right emphasis and/or inflection....Whether or not one agrees with Lewis's arguments, it is a pleasure to hear such a skillful reading of an eloquent work." (Library Journal)

An excellent introduction to The Faith!

If you, someone you love, or even someone you can't stand are seeking the truth about Christianity, CS Lewis makes the rough places plain in this book. I listen to this book often!

Best description of Christianity

If you could sum up Mere Christianity in three words, what would they be?

This is just a logical book. It tells you what Christianity is. There's no fluff, there's no "I'm better because I'm a Christian" in this, but rather it's just a logical basis of what it means to be a Christian. Not the church goers you see at the office, not even a lot of the churchgoers you see at church but what the religion itself is, and what it means. I am a Christian and this was the first christian book I've ever listend to or read that breaks down Christianity logically. I am a numbers person and very logical minded, not an emotional based person and I thought it was fabulous just how simple he made it to understand. I would recommend this to Christians and non Christians alike.

Who was your favorite character and why?

This book has no characters as it is a summation of lectures put together in book form.

What does Geoffrey Howard bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I thought he was a great narrator.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The entire book was so logical. There were very many "ah ha" moments for me.

CS Lewis

This man is clearly one of Christianities' very best theologians. His ability to convey truth to any man is amazing.

best sermon ever

why anyone would be on the fence as to whether or not to become a Christian, this should pretty much clear it up. This is a thinking man's, a logical man's, approach to making sense of how our Lord was born a man, died and was resurrected for our sake. and it is by his mercy and Grace by which we all live.

C. S. Lewis is amazingly timeless.

The book could have been published today and it is as and current as ever. This is completely relevant to today's culture.

Great Listen!

I found this book a very interesting listen. The only qualms I had was some of the language and attitudes are dated, but overall found this to be good explanation and critical thinking of Christianity, suited for both believers and nonbelievers alike.
