Publisher's summary

The most compelling scientific evidence for life beyond death ever compiled.

Evidence of the Afterlife shares the firsthand accounts of people who have died and lived to tell about it. Through their work at the Near Death Experience Research Foundation, radiation oncologist Jeffrey Long and his wife, Jody, have gathered thousands of accounts of near-death experiences (NDEs) from all over the world. In addition to sharing the personal narrative of their experiences, visitors to the website are asked to fill out a one hundred-item questionnaire designed to isolate specific elements of the experience and to flag counterfeit accounts.

The website has become the largest NDE research database in the world, containing over 1,600 NDE accounts. The people whose stories are captured in the database span all age groups, races, and religious affiliations and come from all over the world, yet the similarities in their stories are as awe-inspiring as they are revealing. Using this treasure trove of data, Dr. Long explains how medical evidence fails to explain these reports and why there is only one plausible explanation?that people have survived death and traveled to another dimension.

Fascinating, well-researched study

Would you consider the audio edition of Evidence of the Afterlife: The Science of Near-Death Experiences to be better than the print version?

Doubtful. The narrator mispronounced critical words like anesthesia, which is repeated dozens of times throughout the book. He would pronounce it "Anastasia". Another was jubilant, which he pronounced jubUlant.

What did you like best about this story?

All the accounts of out-of-body and near-death experiences.

Would you be willing to try another one of Bob Dunsworth’s performances?

No.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

This is a very compelling study. He even speaks to the skeptics and explains why their explanations don't hold up.

So so well done

Would you consider the audio edition of Evidence of the Afterlife: The Science of Near-Death Experiences to be better than the print version?

I don't have the printed version.

Any additional comments?

This is a superbly well done book. All based on facts to the extent possible on a topic like NDE. The author should be congratulated for years of research and presenting it in such a concise and understandable manner.

this is an impressive book probably one of the best ever to hit mainstream even better than the other dr .. on the scientific approach to the subject but....u better be focused or you will be re listening..alot..the numbers and numbers and the facts could have been better listening had another narrator maybe ..been chosen..but get thru this book because it's a must read on nde subject..and will be fore decades..and decades..in top 5 for a long long time ..so yes buy and listen only when you devote your entire state of mind to its difficult long windy parts ....

Too many mispronounced words to continue.

I am on chapter 7 and can’t bear the mispronounced words any longer. I am so distracted by them that I can’t continue. Anesthesia is now anastasia. If you can make it through the first 5 minutes of chapter 7, you’re a better person than I am. I started laughing out loud at one point. Sim-yuh-ler for similar is a total deal breaker though. I don’t understand how this happens. Content of the book is fantastic. Delivery is abysmal. Good luck.

Interesting but misleading as scientific

This book told interesting stories and I would've given it a higher rating had it not been for the misleading nature of the contents as presented as scientific research. Before going further into this review, I will highlight that I am not a skeptic of an afterlife. I do believe that there is more to existence than we currently experience and find this book to be an unfortunate example of material that skeptics will surely use to discredit people's NDEs. The authors not only mislead the masses but do so quite over-confidently with sweeping generalities and deceptive credentials. As an MD, there is no way Long doesn't know the importance of the scientific process and empirical research being peer-reviewed and published in reputable scientific journals, yet has zero journal publications himself. He is not a researcher by training - He is a medical doctor who *utilizes* an evidence-base in practice. Calling his analysis of the data collected on his website 'research' is analgous to a soccer coach taking a poll of what players want for after-game snacks and calling it science. One huge flaw that is not mentioned and probably isn't apparent to those who do not work as researchers (or in professions that utilize and look at research with a critical eye) is that the data collected from Long's website is that of a self-selecting sample, meaning those he is surveying are those who find his website and choose to share thier stories, which introduces bias and decreases the ability to draw conclusions. This is not the same as if he sought out hospitalized patients, investigated how many of those who died and returned had NDEs, and asked that group of people what they experienced. A self-selecting sample doesn't mean that the reports are not valid, but it also doesn't mean that they are. There was no attempt to validate stories told despite several possibilities for actual scientific experiments that could actually result in more meaningful, more concrete and credible evidence. Long also makes sweeping statements from which he draws conclusions that may not be easily-identifiable as opinions vs scientific conclusions by readers (e.g., saying things along the lines of "If X, then you would conclude Y."). The information in this book should have been presented as anecdotal evidence but instead its presentation lends itself to all of the conlusions being put into question. Other books, such as Judy Bacarach's 'Glimpsing Heaven', do a much better job at truthfully and transparently presenting information objectively as the product of well-executed, thorough investigative journalism. Aside from the book's contents, the narrator was almost unbareable to listen to. Dunsworth was completely detached and robotic, so much so that I frequently wondered if he was text-to-speech AI vs a real person.

GIVES LIFE MEANING!

This scientific research, done by medical doctors, really helped me know that life after death is a fact. I have since met several people who confirmed from personal experience what is written here. As a psychotherapist, this has been so helpful to clients who wonder why they are here on earth. Also, every choice I now make, I make with the fact in mind that I will see it again, when I die, during my life review. And it makes me want to be proud of my choices rather than ashamed. I'm a better person because of this research.

Too much technical and not enough evidence

What did you like best about Evidence of the Afterlife: The Science of Near-Death Experiences? What did you like least?

I felt the author spend most of the time discussing near death experiences and the similarity between various accounts. I did not have the distinct understanding of true life after death after reading this book.

What did you like about the performance? What did you dislike?

Not memorable.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No
